The University of Texas at Austin: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

UT Austin's Office of Admissions asks applicants whose records are not in English to submit complete and official English translations together with the original-language records, and it does not say who must make them. The University of Texas at Austin accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Graduate Admissions asks for a translation with each non-English transcript plus the separate degree certificate, reviews uploaded records first, and does not accept outside evaluations of foreign transcripts, so the translation, not a WES report, is what you add.

Undergraduates: translations travel with the records

UT Austin's transcript page treats the translation as part of the record: if a document is not in English, you submit complete and official English translations together with the original-language version. For a foreign high school, that record is an official transcript or mark sheet covering ninth grade through at least the end of 11th grade, plus copies of official final examinations such as GCE O and A levels, school leaving certificates and matriculation exams.

Channels are strict. Schools send through the Common App, TRex, Edocs, Naviance, Parchment, Scoir or Greenlight, you can upload in MyStatus once you have applied, or documents can be mailed; UT Austin does not accept transcripts or documents by email. International applicants work to two deadlines, the application deadline and a later one for supplemental materials (for fall, October 22 for early action and December 10 for regular decision), and transfer transcripts are due by the supplemental materials deadline (first-year, transfer).

Graduate admissions: a translation, a degree certificate, no evaluation

The Office of Graduate Admissions wants a transcript from every senior college you attended, in MyStatus, and if it is in another language, accompanied by a translation and, when a degree was awarded, the separate degree certificate (source). It does not accept outside evaluations of foreign transcripts. You may upload an official PDF issued by your institution or a scan of the official paper transcript; uploads let your application be reviewed but count as unofficial if you are admitted. Applicants from Indian institutions submit official transcripts through TrueCopy Credentials, and Chinese applicants follow a separate credential verification document (source).

Admitted students must have official transcripts and the award of degree processed before they can register. The graduate transcript submission FAQ has two details worth knowing: mailed international documents do not need to come directly from the institution or in an unopened envelope, and certified or notarized copies of a degree certificate are not accepted. If your institution issues only one set of originals, you can ask for them back by including the Original Document Retrieval Form (source).

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to UT Austin

Undergraduates submit the translation with the original-language record, through the school's electronic channel, the MyStatus document upload or mail, never email (source).

Graduate applicants upload transcripts and translations through the Document Upload System in MyStatus; after admission, official records arrive by SPEEDE, Parchment, mail with the Graduate Admissions cover sheet, or in person (apply, after your decision, FAQ).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For UT Austin that means we translate; the degree certificate and official transcripts come from your institution, and Graduate Admissions does not use outside evaluations.
