Requirements checked on October 27, 2026 from USI's public pages (sources).
The University of Southern Indiana requires first-year international students to submit, before arriving, an official document-by-document evaluation of their academic records from a NACES member, and names ECE as its preferred provider with a 10% discount.
USI's evaluation agencies, such as ECE and WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Transfer applicants mail records in English and the original language from their college, and transfer credit also needs course descriptions or syllabi translated into English; the evaluation itself is something we do not produce.

Sample translation: a Brazilian university transcript
This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with invented names, school and numbers. The original in Portuguese sits next to our English translation, and the PDF starts with the signed certification page. Bracketed text in the translation is a translator's note: each abbreviation is spelled out the first time it appears, and the layout follows the original line for line, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice
- CPF, RG, MEC, D.O.U., CH, CR and ENADE are spelled out in brackets the first time they appear, and only then.
- Status codes (AP, RM, RF, AE) are explained on first use, so a course failed and retaken the next term reads correctly.
- Grades, decimal commas and dates stay exactly as printed; the date format is noted once. Converting grades is the evaluator's job.
- Terms, rows and columns follow the original line for line, so each course can be matched at a glance.

USI requirements in detail
Translation
No rule for first-year records beyond the evaluation; transfer credit needs course descriptions or syllabi translated into English.
Who may translate
Evaluation (first-year)
Official document-by-document evaluation from a NACES member, verifying secondary completion; ECE General Evaluation through USI's custom application (Freshman international applicants).
Transfer records
Upload copies to speed review; mail original official records in English and the original language, sealed, from the college (Transfer international applicants).
Transfer credit
Official records sent directly, course descriptions or syllabi translated into English, and the grading system; USI may ask for a course-by-course evaluation (Transfer international applicants).
Country rules
China: CDGDC or CSSD verification report. Bangladesh: a NACES course-by-course evaluation before review (Transfer international applicants).
Fee
$40; no Common App fee waiver for international applicants (Freshman international applicants).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
USI accepts any NACES member and prefers Educational Credential Evaluators, which offers USI applicants a custom application with a 10% discount and sends USI a free electronic copy; choose the General Evaluation (freshman requirements).
ECE asks for complete, literal, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, lets applicants prepare them, and for $85 sells a Translation Waiver under which it translates internally for the report only.
WES, also a NACES member, requires a word-for-word translation by a professional translator.
Students in the Intensive English Program do not need evaluated transcripts.
Transfer students and credit
Transfer applicants from colleges outside the US or Canada can upload copies of their records to speed processing, but must have original official records in English and the original language mailed in a sealed envelope by the college to finalize the application and the credit (transfer requirements).
That is a request for the college's own English record.
For the transfer credit evaluation after admission, USI also needs course descriptions or class syllabi translated into English and official information on the grading system, and may send you to an agency for a course-by-course report.
Applicants from Bangladesh, because of the volume of fraudulent records, must first send a complete NACES course-by-course evaluation with a copy of the original records; USI recommends ECE.

- Grading system information
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to USI
The translation goes to ECE or another NACES member with your records; the agency sends the evaluation to USI (Freshman international applicants). Course descriptions and syllabi in English go to USI for the transfer credit evaluation (Transfer international applicants).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For USI that means we translate your records, syllabi and course descriptions; the NACES evaluation is ordered by you, and the English transcript from your college must come from the college itself.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Which evaluation does USI require?
An official document-by-document evaluation from a NACES member; ECE is preferred (Freshman international applicants).
Do my syllabi need to be translated?
Yes, for transfer credit: course descriptions or syllabi translated into English (Transfer international applicants).
I studied in China. What do I send?
A verification report mailed directly by CDGDC or CSSD instead of uploading records (Freshman international applicants).
Is there an application fee waiver?
Not through the Common App for international applicants; the fee is $40 (Freshman international applicants).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
