How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Indiana State University publishes no translation rule of its own: its international freshman and graduate checklists list a credential evaluation among the application materials and accept reports only from nine NACES members, while transfer applicants can use Indiana State's free in-house evaluation.
Indiana State's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and Educational Perspectives, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

Indiana State requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own for degree applicants; foreign records reach Indiana State through a credential evaluation (International freshman admissions). The translation is what the agency needs first.
Who may translate
Set by the agency: WES wants a professional translator, ECE accepts any word-for-word translation, Educational Perspectives a reputable agency, Josef Silny an ATA-certified translator in the US (see below).
Accepted agencies
A2Z Evaluations, Academic Evaluation Services, Educational Credential Evaluators, Educational Perspectives, Educational Records Evaluation Service, IERF, Josef Silny & Associates, Transcript Research and World Education Services (International freshman admissions).
Transfer applicants
Unofficial transcripts and a free in-house evaluation by Indiana State, or a report from the same agencies; syllabi decide whether credit is more than general elective (transfer admissions, International freshman admissions).
Graduate applicants
The same nine agencies; an unofficial transcript first, the official one no later than arrival on campus (graduate admissions).
Guest students
Official transcripts issued in English, sent by the issuing institution or examining body (additional information).
Deadlines (undergraduate)
Priority: June 1 for fall, October 15 for spring; students needing an I-20 must be admitted by July 1 or November 15; $65 fee; answer in four to six weeks (International freshman admissions).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
Indiana State takes reports only from nine NACES members, and their translation rules differ (freshman admissions). WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and refuses translations by applicants.
ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations in the original format, including your own, and sells an $85 Translation Waiver.
Educational Perspectives accepts translations by a reputable translation agency or a certified, professional translator.
Josef Silny & Associates is stricter: translations made in the US must be by ATA-certified translators, and those made abroad by accredited or officially certified professionals.
If you choose Josef Silny, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA on request: ask for a free quote and say it is for a Josef Silny evaluation.
For the other five agencies on the list, check the agency's own page before ordering. See translation for credential evaluation.
Freshmen, transfers and graduate applicants
For first-year applicants the credential evaluation is the third item on the checklist, and Indiana State warns that it takes several weeks, so start early; the application is not complete until the official high school transcript arrives.
A non-final official transcript is enough for a provisional decision, and a final one is due before your second semester.
Foreign transcripts may also be hand-delivered at International Orientation (International freshman admissions).
Transfer applicants submit unofficial transcripts and can rely on Indiana State's own credential evaluation, which is free; with fewer than 12 college credits they also send the final high school transcript (transfer admissions, International freshman admissions).
The Registrar encourages syllabi or course descriptions, preferably syllabi: without them, you may receive only general elective credit.
Graduate applicants use the same nine agencies, starting with an unofficial transcript and providing the official one no later than arrival (graduate admissions).
Indiana State does not state a translation rule for the in-house review; ask the Office of Admissions what it wants for records not in English.

Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and diploma, for the agency
- University transcripts and degree certificates
- Course syllabi or descriptions, for transfer credit
- Grading scale or legend printed with the transcripts
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Indiana State
For freshman and graduate applicants the translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records (WES, for example, takes it in your WES account); name Indiana State as the recipient of the report.
Other documents, such as the financial guarantee and the passport copy, are uploaded in the "supplemental materials" tab of the online application; the bank statement must be mailed directly by the bank (International freshman admissions).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Indiana State that means we translate your records for the agency; the evaluation is ordered by you from one of the nine NACES members after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Indiana State require a certified translation?
It states no translation rule of its own for degree applicants. Its freshman and graduate checklists go through a NACES evaluation (International freshman admissions), and the agency sets the rule: WES wants a professional translator (WES).
Which evaluation agencies does Indiana State accept?
Nine NACES members: A2Z, Academic Evaluation Services, ECE, Educational Perspectives, Educational Records Evaluation Service, IERF, Josef Silny, Transcript Research and WES (International freshman admissions).
Do transfer students pay for an evaluation?
No. Indiana State offers in-house credential evaluation for transfers at no charge (International transfer admissions).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for Josef Silny?
Yes, on request through a free quote; write in the notes that the translation is for a Josef Silny evaluation for Indiana State. ATA certifies translators into English only for certain languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Chinese and Arabic.
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
