URI requirements in detail
Translation
Certified English translations of all secondary and post-secondary coursework not written in English (International admission).
Who may translate
Undergraduate: not stated. Graduate: an official translator, or a certified translator for official non-evaluated transcripts (international, checklist).
Copies or originals
Scans or copies of original documents for admission; official documents presented at enrollment (International admission).
Evaluation (transfer)
All post-secondary transcripts evaluated course-by-course by a NACES member at enrollment, with a cumulative GPA and an official report sent to URI (International admission).
Evaluation (graduate)
Not required but highly recommended, and may be requested; NACES or AICE members, with discounted portals at TEC and ECE (Graduate School: international applicants).
Deadlines (undergraduate)
First-year: Early Decision November 1, Early Action December 1, fall February 1. Transfer: spring December 15, fall July 31 (International admission).
Where to apply
First-year: Common Application. International transfer: the URI Transfer Application, not the Common App (International admission).
First-year: certified translations, scans first
URI's international admission steps ask for secondary school documents, including results and certificates of completion from national exams, and in a separate step for certified English translations of all coursework not written in English (International admission).
For the admission decision, scans or copies of the originals are accepted; the official documents are presented to the Office of Undergraduate Admission when you enroll.
That means you can order the translation from a scan and apply with both, then bring the originals at enrollment. The translation should cover the exam certificates as well as the year-by-year results, since URI asks for both.
Transfer: both languages, NACES and syllabi
International transfer applicants use the URI Transfer Application, not the Common App, and have their issuing institution send official transcripts in the original language and in English directly to the Office of Admission (Admission@uri.edu) (International admission).
All post-secondary transcripts must also be evaluated course-by-course by a NACES member at the time of enrollment, based on original or attested copies; URI asks you to request a cumulative GPA and have the agency send an official report.
For credit, faculty evaluators in each department review your course descriptions and syllabi, which must be translated into English (International admission).
Business, engineering, pharmacy, kinesiology, landscape architecture and music may ask transfer applicants for more coursework or a higher GPA.
Graduate School: a certified translator or an evaluation
URI's Graduate School does not require an evaluation of foreign transcripts but highly recommends one and may request it after a first review.
If you send transcripts instead of an evaluation, they must be in English or translated by an official translator (Graduate School: international applicants).
Evaluations from NACES or AICE members are accepted, and The Evaluation Company and ECE offer URI applicants discounted portals.
The checklist adds that unofficial foreign transcripts can be translated by a translator for the application, and that official non-evaluated transcripts must be translated by a certified translator and sent in a sealed envelope directly from the institution or the translator (Graduate applicant checklist).
URI does not treat three-year bachelor's degrees from India, Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka or Scotland as equivalent, though a Bologna three-year degree may qualify with an evaluation (Graduate School: international applicants).
International fall applicants are encouraged to apply by February 1 (Graduate School FAQs).

Uploading the translation to URI
First-year applicants upload scans of their documents and the certified translations with the Common Application, and show officials at enrollment (International admission).
Graduate applicants upload unofficial transcripts with translations; after admission, official non-evaluated transcripts go in a sealed envelope from the institution or translator (Graduate applicant checklist).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For URI that means we translate your records and syllabi; the NACES course-by-course evaluation for transfer students, and an optional graduate evaluation, come from an evaluation agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

They need a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member, with a cumulative GPA, at enrollment (International admission).
Does the URI Graduate School require a credential evaluation?
No, but it is highly recommended and may be requested; without one, transcripts must be translated by an official translator (Graduate School: international applicants).
