The University of Mount Saint Vincent reviews secondary transcripts directly only if they are in English and in a US format or come with an official grading scale; otherwise they must go through a NACES agency, and it names SpanTran, Josef Silny, WES and Global Credential Evaluators.

Mount Saint Vincent's evaluation agencies, such as WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the agency then writes the evaluation, which we do not provide.

Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

Mount Saint Vincent requirements in detail

Translation

Secondary transcripts not in English, not in a US format or without an official grading scale must go through a NACES agency (International application checklist and timeline). The translation is what the agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the agency: WES accepts a professional translation service; SpanTran (TEC), Josef Silny and GCE accept outside translators certified by ATA (see below).

Agencies named

SpanTran: The Evaluation Company (partner discount), Josef Silny & Associates, World Education Services and Global Credential Evaluators (International application checklist and timeline).

2+2 transfer juniors

Official college transcript to the Mount and to WES, which sends its evaluation report directly; GPA of at least 85 and TOEFL 550 or IELTS 6.0 (2+2 program).

English proficiency

TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson PTE, GTECH CBT or Duolingo, or SAT/ACT; written TOEFL 550, online 80 (International application checklist and timeline).

After admission

Bank statements with at least three months of recent history; the I-20 is sent by FedEx (International application checklist and timeline).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

Mount Saint Vincent calls its four agencies "NACES approved translation services", but each one sets its own rule for the translation it receives.

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency, and does not translate documents itself.

The Evaluation Company (SpanTran, the Mount's discounted partner) accepts an outside translator only if certified by the American Translators Association, or translates in house after you apply.

Josef Silny asks for translators certified by ATA when the translation is made in the US and has its own translation department.

GCE accepts translations only from the issuing university, the Ministry of Education or an ATA-certified translator.

If you choose SpanTran or Josef Silny, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA on request through a free quote; for WES, our standard certified translation fits.

First-year, transfer and the 2+2 program

First-year, transfer and graduate international applicants meet the same academic standards as US applicants, and merit scholarships are reviewed from the complete application (International application checklist and timeline).

A transcript already in English is read as it is only if it follows a US format or arrives with an official grading scale; anything else goes through one of the agencies.

The 2+2 program for students with two years of university abroad is stricter: the official transcript goes both to the Mount and to WES, and WES sends its report straight to the Mount.

Students from Beijing Normal University-Zhuhai apply through their articulation agreement and do not use WES (2+2 program).

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificate
  • Official grading scale
  • University transcripts, for transfer and 2+2 applicants
  • Bank statements, if not in English

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Mount Saint Vincent

  • The translation is not uploaded to the Mount: it goes to the agency with your records (WES, for example, takes it in your WES account), and the agency sends its evaluation to Mount Saint Vincent.

  • eVerbary delivers a signed PDF; on request we can also email the translation directly to the admissions office.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Mount Saint Vincent that means we translate your records for the agency; the evaluation is ordered by you from WES or one of the other three agencies.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mount Saint Vincent need a translation of my transcript?

If it is not in English, or not in a US format and without an official grading scale, it goes through a NACES agency (International application checklist and timeline), and the agency sets the translation rule: WES takes a professional translation (WES).

Which agency should I use?

Any of the four the Mount lists: SpanTran (partner discount), Josef Silny, WES or GCE (International application checklist and timeline). Compare their translation rules before ordering.

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for SpanTran or Josef Silny?

Yes, on request. Ask for a free quote and name the agency. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.

I am applying to the 2+2 transfer program. Which agency?

WES, which must send its evaluation report directly to the Mount (International transfer students: the 2+2 program).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
