How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Texas Southern University requires all official documents not originally in English to be translated into English by a certified translator in accordance with USCIS standards: complete, accurate and with a signed statement that the translation is accurate and the translator competent.

Texas Southern University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Foreign college transcripts also need a course-by-course evaluation with GPA from an approved service, which we do not provide.

TSU at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

TSU asks for translations by a certified translator meeting USCIS standards, and says USCIS-recognized translation services are widely accepted, without endorsing one (international admissions); eVerbary's certified translations include the signed statement those standards require. TSU requirements in detail

Translation

All official documents not originally in English, translated into English (International admissions: student requirements).

Who may translate

A certified translator, in accordance with USCIS standards; TSU names the ATA directory and USCIS-recognized translation services as widely accepted (International admissions: student requirements).

Standards

Complete, without omissions, accurate, and with a signed statement certifying accuracy and the translator's competence (International admissions: student requirements).

What must be translated

Transcripts and diplomas, secondary school leaving certificates, proof of graduation, birth certificates if requested, bank statements and affidavits of support (International admissions: student requirements).

Evaluation

Foreign college transcripts: course-by-course with GPA, from TEC (discounted TSU application), FCSA, GCE, SDR or WES (International admissions: student requirements).

Where it goes

The TSU application portal, int_adm@tsu.edu, or by mail to the Office of International Admissions, 3100 Cleburne Street, Houston, TX 77004 (International admissions: student requirements).

Timing

Transcripts submitted after classes begin are not accepted (International admissions: student requirements).

The USCIS standard, applied to admission

TSU borrows the immigration standard for its admission files.

Every non-English academic and legal document must be translated in full, accurately, and come with the translator's signed statement that the translation is accurate and that the translator is competent to translate from that language into English (International admissions: student requirements).

TSU does not endorse a provider; it points to ATA-certified translators and to translation services recognized for USCIS work, and asks that every translation include a signed certification letter. That is the format of an eVerbary certified translation.

Four mistakes TSU warns about

TSU lists the errors that slow a file: sending only the translation without the original, using machine translation such as Google Translate, leaving out the signed certification of accuracy, and translating only part of a document (International admissions: student requirements).

Its records rule also asks for all high school courses and every college attended, a statement of degree for each degree, and a certified English translation with each document not in English.

For transfers and graduate applicants with college work abroad, the course-by-course evaluation with GPA comes on top of the translation; TEC offers a discounted TSU application.

Need a certified translation for TSU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Academic transcripts and diplomas
  • Secondary school leaving certificates and proof of graduation
  • Statement of degree for each completed degree
  • Bank statements and affidavits of support
  • Birth certificate, if requested

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to TSU

  • Upload the original-language document and the certified English translation together in the TSU application portal, or email them to int_adm@tsu.edu; by mail, send both in hard copy to the Office of International Admissions (International admissions: student requirements).

  • We deliver the certified translation as a PDF with the signed statement, and can send it directly to the admissions office by email on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For TSU that means we translate your records and financial documents; the course-by-course evaluation of foreign college transcripts is ordered by you from TEC, FCSA, GCE, SDR or WES.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
