How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
SUNY Schenectady requires an evaluation agency to verify an international applicant's secondary school records, showing completion of the US 12th grade or a US college degree equivalent, and names WES, ECE and other NACES members.
SUNY Schenectady's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You translate first and the agency evaluates; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

SUNY Schenectady requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own; the evaluation agency sets it (International students).
Evaluation
Required: an agency verifies your secondary records, equivalent to US 12th grade or to a US college degree (International students).
Accepted evaluators
WES, ECE or other NACES members (International students).
What must be in the file
The evaluation report and an official copy of the transcript, by the international deadline (International students).
Exception
A transcript of an associate or bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US college, sent directly, replaces the evaluation (International students).
Deadlines
Complete by July 15 for fall and December 1 for spring; no international admission for summer (International students).
The evaluation and the transcript, both by the deadline
SUNY Schenectady's Admissions Office does not judge foreign secondary records itself: it requires an evaluation agency to verify them and show either completion of the US 12th grade or the equivalent of a US college degree.
WES, ECE and other NACES members qualify, and the evaluation report together with an official copy of the transcript must be in your file by the international deadline, July 15 for fall and December 1 for spring (International students).
Because the deadline is for a complete file, work backward: translation first, then the agency's processing time, then delivery.
If you hold an associate or bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US college, an official transcript sent directly from that college replaces the evaluation (International students).
The Full Opportunity Program that guarantees admission to local residents does not apply to international students.
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
WES requires an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, which can be a certified translation agency; you upload it in your WES account, and WES does not translate (WES).
ECE accepts a complete, literal translation in the same format as the original, allows applicants to translate their own documents, and sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally only for its report (ECE).
For both, translate the full high school diploma, every year of the transcript and the grading scale.

Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts, for the evaluation
- Secondary school diploma or completion certificate
- University transcripts and degree certificate, if you claim a college degree
- Bank statement or bank letter, if not in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to SUNY Schenectady
The translation goes to the evaluation agency; its report and an official transcript copy go to the Admissions Office. The passport scan, SUNY financial statement and International Student Information Form go to Admissions by mail or email (International students).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For SUNY Schenectady that means we translate your records for the agency; the WES, ECE or NACES evaluation is ordered by you after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does SUNY Schenectady require a credential evaluation?
Yes. An evaluation agency must verify your secondary school records (International students).
Which agencies does SUNY Schenectady accept?
WES, ECE or other NACES members (International students).
Do I translate my documents for SUNY Schenectady or for the agency?
For the agency. SUNY Schenectady sets no translation rule; WES, for example, wants a professional word-for-word translation (WES).
I have a US associate degree. Do I still need an evaluation?
No. An official transcript of an associate or bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US college, sent directly, substitutes (International students).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
