Southeast New Mexico College asks that all transcripts from a foreign country be evaluated and translated into English, and it does not say who must translate.

Southeast New Mexico College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

The evaluation comes from any NACES member, with SpanTran (The Evaluation Company) as SENMC's discounted partner; that evaluation is something we do not provide.

Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

By an independent international credential evaluation service, at your cost; any NACES member is accepted (international students).

Anyone whose most recent degree or credential was completed at an institution outside the US (catalog).

Contact

Admissions Office, Room 111, admissions@senmc.edu, (575) 234-9221 (International student admission steps).

Who SENMC treats as an international applicant

SENMC's catalog defines international by the last credential, not by citizenship: anyone who completed their most recent degree or credential at an institution outside the US is an international student for admissions purposes (catalog).

A Carlsbad resident with a Mexican high school diploma follows the same rule as someone abroad: the transcripts must be translated into English and evaluated.

SENMC is not an I-20 issuing college. Students who do not need an I-20 may apply, but they can register only for online courses, and the college expects them to speak, read and write English (international students).

Step 2 of SENMC's international checklist sends transcripts to an independent evaluation service that charges a fee, and any NACES member is accepted (International student admission steps).

For degree-seeking students the catalog recommends SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, for both high school and college transcripts (catalog).

Agencies set their own translation rules.

The Evaluation Company accepts an outside translator only if certified by the American Translators Association, or translates in house; eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request through a free quote.

WES, another NACES member, accepts a word-for-word translation from a professional translation service.

Need a certified translation for SENMC?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • High school transcripts and diploma or leaving certificate
  • College or university transcripts and degree certificates
  • Grading scale printed with the transcripts
  • National exam results, where they complete secondary school

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to SENMC

  • Apply online; a processor usually calls and emails you within about 24 hours with your next steps (International student admission steps). The certified translation goes with your transcripts to the evaluation agency, and the agency sends its report to SENMC.

  • eVerbary delivers a signed PDF; on request we can also email the translation directly to the admissions office.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For SENMC that means we translate your transcripts; the NACES evaluation is ordered by you from SpanTran or another member.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does SENMC require a translation of my foreign transcript?

Yes. All transcripts from a foreign country must be translated into English and evaluated; SENMC does not say who translates (catalog).

Which evaluation company should I use for SENMC?

Any NACES member. SENMC partners with SpanTran (The Evaluation Company) and offers a discounted link (International student admission steps).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for SpanTran?

Yes, on request. Ask for a free quote and say it is for The Evaluation Company (SpanTran). ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.

I live in Carlsbad but finished high school in Mexico. Am I international?

For admissions, yes: SENMC counts anyone whose most recent credential is from outside the US (catalog).

Can I study at SENMC on an F-1 visa?

No. SENMC does not issue I-20s; students without one may take online courses only (International student admission steps).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
