Shoreline Community College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Shoreline admits F-1 students on unofficial academic records and asks for no translation at that stage; the translation comes in when you want foreign university credit counted toward a Shoreline degree. Then your records must be translated into English by a professional translation service at home or in the US, not by you, and evaluated course by course by a credential evaluation service. Shoreline Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; the evaluation itself comes from an agency, which we are not.
Not by you
Shoreline refuses self-made translations; a trained, certified professional must translate.
Transfer degrees only
Foreign university credit is evaluated only for students completing a transfer degree.
8 to 10 weeks

Shoreline requirements at a glance
| What Shoreline asks for | |
|---|---|
| Admission (F-1) | Upload your most recent academic records; unofficial transcripts are acceptable, and no translation is mentioned (international admission). |
| Translation for credit | Required. A professional translation service in your home country or in the US; a translation already made and notarized by a translation service is also acceptable (source, source). |
| Self-translation | Not accepted (source). |
| Evaluation | Course-by-course, from an international credential evaluation service; any NACES member is accepted. Only original evaluation documents count (source). |
| Who gets an evaluation | Students completing a transfer degree; credits for professional-technical programs such as Nursing are reviewed by that program's advisor (request form). |
| When | During your first quarter, after you enroll and meet an advisor (source). |
| High School Completion | Applicants need a credential evaluation of overseas high school work, not due at admission (source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. Shoreline's international office asks for records translated "by a professional translation service" in your home country or in the US (international credential evaluation), and Enrollment Services adds that the translator must be a trained and certified professional, not the student (international credits). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that rule. Policy checked on October 13, 2026. |

Admission first, translation later
Shoreline's F-1 application asks you to upload your most recent academic records in the Academic History tab, and says unofficial transcripts are fine (international admission). It does not ask for a translation there. The translation becomes a requirement after you arrive, when you ask Shoreline to count university credit from abroad toward a degree.
That request should be made in your first quarter, once you are enrolled and have met an advisor, and only if you will complete a Shoreline degree or certificate; Shoreline's evaluation is of no use for anything else (source). Enrollment Services goes further: only students who plan to complete a transfer degree receive an international transcript evaluation, and few credits apply to professional-technical programs, where the program advisor (Nursing, for example) does the review (international credits, request form).
Who may translate, and what it costs at Shoreline
Shoreline names the translator it wants. The records go first to a professional translation service in your home country or in the US. A translation that has already been made and notarized by a translation service is acceptable as it is; otherwise Shoreline points you to its list of professional translators. A translation you make yourself is refused: the translator must be a trained and certified professional (source). If you want the translation notarized as well, notarization can be added at checkout for $34.90 per order.
Shoreline even publishes its own estimate: about $40 for up to 200 words, $25 to $35 for each further 100 words, and one to two weeks for the translation. It expects translation and evaluation together to take 8 to 10 weeks, and its own final review at least 8 weeks more (source). The course-by-course evaluation tells Shoreline whether your school is recognized by the Ministry of Education and whether each class was university-level, and converts credits to the US quarter system (source).
Which courses Shoreline will not count
Before paying for an evaluation, check Shoreline's course rules. Credit is refused from schools not recognized by the local Ministry of Education and for courses that were not university-level at home. English or ESL courses transfer only if taken in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or Canada, though English literature generally transfers. Courses in a particular religious doctrine or political ideology usually do not; comparative religion does (source).
For the High School Completion program, the international office lists three agencies with prices and turnaround: The Evaluation Company (TEC, formerly SpanTran), ECE, and FIS, which typically takes scanned or electronic documents, plus any NACES member (source).
Where Shoreline's pages differ
The credential evaluation page lists FIS, TEC and University Language Services as translation services, and TEC, ECE and FIS as evaluators; the PDF request form lists FIS and the Washington Academy of Languages as translators, and FIS and AACRAO as evaluators. Timing also varies: 8 to 10 weeks plus at least 8 for Shoreline's own step on the international credits page, and a wait of up to 11 weeks on the Enrollment Services evaluation page. The web pages use the name Shoreline College; the form says Shoreline Community College. We have not resolved these differences; the translator lists are suggestions, and the rule on all pages is a professional translator, not you.
Documents applicants usually translate
- University transcripts and mark sheets
- Degree or diploma certificates from university studies
- Secondary school transcripts, for the High School Completion program
- Records from each school, if you studied at more than one university abroad
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Shoreline
For admission, upload your records in the Academic History tab of the international application, or later on your Application Status page (source).
For credit, the translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records. When the course-by-course report is ready, bring an official copy with page three of the request form to Enrollment Services, Building 5000, Room 5200, or send the request to enrollmentservices@shoreline.edu (source, form). Residents and other non-F-1 students with foreign university credit follow the same Enrollment Services procedure (source); F-1 and J-1 students take placement through International Education (placement).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. At Shoreline the course-by-course evaluation comes from TEC, ECE, FIS or another NACES member; we provide the professional translation that comes before it.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I translate my own transcripts for Shoreline?
No. Shoreline does not accept translations made by the student; the translator must be a trained and certified professional (source). Shoreline Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Do I need a translation to apply to Shoreline as an F-1 student?
The international admission page asks only for your most recent academic records, unofficial transcripts accepted, and does not mention a translation (source). The translation rule applies when you request credit for university study abroad.
Is a translation made in my home country acceptable?
Yes. Shoreline accepts a professional translation service in your home country or in the US, and a translation already notarized by a translation service (source).
Will my foreign credits count toward a Nursing or other technical program?
Very few, if any. International credits for professional-technical programs are reviewed by the program advisor, and the standard evaluation is for transfer degrees (source).
When should I start?
Request the evaluation during your first quarter at Shoreline, after meeting an advisor; Shoreline estimates 8 to 10 weeks for translation and evaluation (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
