How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

North Shore Community College requires that foreign transcripts be evaluated by a recognized agency, and for international applicants asks for a course-by-course evaluation from one of three approved agencies: CED, North American Educational Group or WES.

North Shore's evaluation agencies, such as WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Translate first, then order the evaluation, which we do not provide.

Worth knowing about NSCC

Course-by-course

Required for schooling completed outside the US.

Three agencies

CED, North American Educational Group, WES.

No credit guarantee

NSCC, not the agency, decides what transfers.

NSCC requirements in detail

Translation

No rule of its own; the evaluation agency sets it (International students).

Evaluation (F-1)

Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a recognized agency; NSCC requires a course-by-course evaluation from an approved agency (International students).

Approved agencies

Center for Educational Documentation (Boston), North American Educational Group (Swampscott) and World Education Services (evaluation of foreign credentials).

High school

The same agencies can evaluate high school work when you need proof of a US high school diploma equivalent (Evaluation of foreign credentials).

Transfer credit

The agency sends the evaluated transcript directly to NSCC; you file the Transfer Credit Request Form in MyNorthshore; review takes 1 to 3 weeks (transferring courses).

Deadlines (F-1)

Spring 2027: November 27, 2026 for new students and January 8, 2027 for F-1 transfers (International students).

An evaluation instead of a translation rule

NSCC's checklist for international students lists official transcripts and adds that foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation agency; the page then asks for a course-by-course evaluation from an approved agency, to set the US equivalency and decide on transfer credit (international students).

There is no separate translation requirement for NSCC. The agency needs the translation: WES, for example, accepts only a complete, word-for-word translation from a professional translator, not one made by the applicant.

CED and North American Educational Group set their own rules; check them before ordering.

Proof of English proficiency must be the TOEFL; NSCC says IELTS is not accepted (International students). Credit-level ESL, Aviation and some selective programs are not open to F-1 students.

Credit is NSCC's decision

NSCC warns that an official evaluation by one of its agencies does not guarantee that it will accept any of your coursework; the final decision belongs to NSCC, not the agency (Evaluation of foreign credentials).

Transcripts are evaluated only once you are in a program of study and have completed the Transfer Credit Request Form, and electronic transcripts sent by students are not treated as official (Transferring courses into NSCC).

Plan the order: translation, then evaluation sent by the agency to NSCC, then the request form.

Need a certified translation for NSCC?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • High school transcripts or national exam results
  • University transcripts, for the course-by-course evaluation
  • Degree certificates

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to NSCC

  • The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your documents, not to NSCC. Ask the agency to send the evaluated transcript directly to NSCC; NSCC does not accept electronic transcripts sent by the student as official (Transferring courses into NSCC).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For NSCC that means we translate your records for the agency; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from CED, North American Educational Group or WES.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does North Shore Community College require a certified translation?

NSCC itself asks for a course-by-course evaluation, not a translation (International students). The agency sets the translation rule; WES requires a professional translator (WES).

Which evaluation agencies does NSCC accept?

CED, North American Educational Group and WES (Evaluation of foreign credentials).

Will the evaluation get me transfer credit?

Not automatically; NSCC makes the final decision (Evaluation of foreign credentials).

How long does the credit review take?

Generally 1 to 3 weeks after NSCC receives the official transcript, once you are in a program and have filed the request form (Transferring courses into NSCC).

Does NSCC accept IELTS?

No; international applicants must submit the TOEFL (International students).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
