How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

North Idaho College says high school transcripts do not need to be translated into English, though it may ask for a translation if needed, and that international college transcripts must first be evaluated by WES or another NACES-approved agency before NIC reviews the courses.

NIC's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, and NIC does not restrict who translates when it asks for one. The evaluation comes from the agency, not from us.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Worth knowing about NIC

High school: as issued

No translation needed unless NIC asks.

College: WES first

Or another NACES agency, at your expense.

Then NIC reviews

NIC Admissions evaluates the courses.

NIC requirements in detail

Translation

High school transcripts need no English translation, but NIC may request one (North Idaho College: international students).

Who may translate

Not stated; for college records, set by the evaluation agency.

High school delivery

The school may email or fax the transcript directly to NIC international admissions (North Idaho College: international students).

College credit

International transcripts go first, at your expense, to WES or a similar NACES-approved agency for an external evaluation of credentials and individual courses; then NIC Admissions evaluates them (North Idaho College: international students).

All schools

Official transcripts from every institution attended, even if credits were already transferred (North Idaho College: international students).

US transfers

Official transcripts showing completed English and math courses (North Idaho College: international students).

High school as issued, college through an agency

North Idaho College is unusually relaxed about high school records: they do not need to be translated into English, and your school can email or fax them directly to NIC, though NIC may ask for a translation if it needs one (international students).

If it does, translate the full transcript and diploma so the request is closed in one step. See high school diploma translation.

College work is different.

NIC wants official transcripts from every institution you attended, and international ones go first to WES or another NACES-approved agency for an evaluation of your credentials and individual courses, at your cost; NIC Admissions then evaluates the coursework itself (North Idaho College: international students).

What the agencies ask for the translation

WES, which NIC names, requires an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator or service and does not accept the applicant's own.

ECE, another NACES member, accepts literal translations, including the applicant's own, or sells an $85 Translation Waiver. Choose the agency before ordering the translation.

  • High school transcript and diploma (translation if NIC asks)
  • University or college transcripts, for the agency evaluation
  • Bank statements showing the yearly funds NIC requires

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

At NIC that means the evaluation of college transcripts comes from WES or another NACES agency; we translate the records.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does North Idaho College require my high school transcript in English?

No, but NIC may request a translation if needed (North Idaho College: international students).

Which agency should I use for college credit at NIC?

WES or a similar NACES-approved agency (North Idaho College: international students).

Who pays for the evaluation?

You do; NIC says the external evaluation is at the student's expense (North Idaho College: international students).

Do I need transcripts from every college?

Yes, from every institution attended, even if credits were transferred between them (North Idaho College: international students).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
