How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Napa Valley College asks F-1 applicants for proof of at least the equivalent of US high school graduation and says foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an international evaluation service, a NACES member, recommending International Education Evaluations (IEE); it publishes no translation rule of its own.
Napa Valley College's evaluation agencies, such as IEE, WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You translate first and send the translation to the agency, which writes the evaluation; the evaluation is something we do not provide.

Napa Valley College requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own; foreign transcripts reach NVC through an evaluation (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)). The translation is what the agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency. IEE asks for a certified translator; WES and ECE accept a professional translation.
What admission needs
Proof of at least the equivalent of US high school graduation (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)).
Evaluation
By a recognized service on the NACES list, International Education Evaluations recommended; official evaluations can be sent electronically to the International Students Program (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)).
Transfer credit
Only for transcripts from a school with US accreditation from an ICAS-approved accreditor (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)).
Bank statement
No older than 6 months; a bank outside the US must stamp or sign it (International students).
Deadlines (F-1)
All materials by May 1 for fall and October 1 for spring (International students).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
Napa Valley College recommends IEE, which wants a translation by a certified translator, not one by the applicant or a notary public, and which sells its own translations from $60 per page.
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not translate documents itself.
ECE asks for complete, word-for-word translations, lets applicants translate their own documents and sells an $85 Translation Waiver, under which no translation is delivered to you.
Whichever agency you choose, translate the diploma and every page of the transcript, stamps and grading scale included, so the evaluation can state the US equivalence NVC needs.
High school equivalence and college credit
For admission, the evaluation has to show at least the equivalent of a US high school graduation; the handbook adds that foreign transcripts are evaluated for general education credit (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)).
A certified translation of the high school diploma is usually the first document the agency asks for.
College credit has an extra condition: NVC evaluates international transcripts for transfer credit only if the school holds US accreditation from an ICAS-approved accreditor (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)), which most universities abroad do not.
Ask the International Student Program before paying for a course-by-course report.

Uploading the translation to Napa Valley College
For foreign records, the translation goes to the evaluation agency with your documents; the agency sends the official evaluation electronically to the NVC International Students Program (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)).
The application, bank statement and other forms go through NVC's online international student application (International students).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Napa Valley College that means we translate your records for the agency; the NACES evaluation is ordered by you, from IEE or another member, after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Napa Valley College require a certified translation?
NVC itself publishes no translation rule; it requires a NACES evaluation of foreign transcripts (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)), and the agency sets the translation rule. IEE, the agency NVC recommends, asks for a certified translator (IEE).
Which evaluation agency should I use for NVC?
NVC recommends International Education Evaluations and accepts any recognized NACES member (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)).
Will NVC give credit for my university courses abroad?
Only if the school has US accreditation from an ICAS-approved accreditor (International student handbook 2026 (PDF)).
What is the deadline?
May 1 for fall and October 1 for spring, with all materials submitted (International students).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
