How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Madison College asks every applicant with an educational credential from outside the US, residents and F-1 students alike, for a credential evaluation: a general evaluation for admission and, in most cases, a course-by-course evaluation for credit for prior learning; it says a translation is not a substitute for that evaluation.
Madison College's evaluation agencies, such as One Earth, ECE and WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, and syllabi not in English must be translated by a translation service.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the agency then writes the evaluation, which we do not provide.

Syllabi

Madison College requirements in detail
Translation
No translation rule for transcripts: foreign credentials reach Madison College through a credential evaluation, and translated transcripts are not a substitute for one (Submit your transcripts). The agency sets the translation rule.
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency; for syllabi, a translation service (Submit your transcripts).
Evaluation
General evaluation (diploma and GPA) as the minimum for admission; course-by-course to verify courses, grades and credits for credit for prior learning (International student application steps).
Accepted agencies
One Earth and ECE recommended; any NACES member or AICE endorsed member accepted, and other services may be refused (International student application steps).
Who it applies to
Every applicant with a credential from outside the US; F-1 applicants follow the international admission steps (Submit your transcripts).
Deadlines (F-1)
July 15 for fall, November 15 for spring, April 15 for summer; the process typically takes 8 weeks (International student application steps).
US territories
Transcripts from Puerto Rico and the other territories need no translation (Submit your transcripts).
An evaluation for everyone with a foreign diploma
Madison College does not limit the evaluation to F-1 students.
Its transcript rules for all applicants say that a credential earned outside the US needs a credential evaluation for admission, and in most cases for credit for prior learning; a general evaluation converts the diploma and GPA to the US equivalent, and a course-by-course evaluation lists the courses with US grades and credits (submit transcripts).
For a high school diploma from abroad, the general evaluation is what admission needs; see high school diploma translation.
The college states plainly that translated credentials or transcripts are not a substitute for the evaluation, and that a course-by-course report is not a transfer decision either: the Credit for Prior Learning office only uses it to verify courses, grades and credits (Submit your transcripts).
Puerto Rico and the other US territories are the exception: no translation and no evaluation, since Admissions verifies those transcripts itself.
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
Madison College recommends One Earth and ECE and accepts any NACES or AICE member (International student application steps).
One Earth wants word-for-word English translations with the documents in the original language and, in most cases, lets you prepare them yourself.
ECE also accepts your own word-for-word translation in the same format, or for $85 translates internally for the report under its Translation Waiver, without giving you a translation.
WES, a NACES member, does not accept translations by applicants and wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator.
If you plan to reuse the translation elsewhere, for example for a university transfer later, a certified translation from a professional service works with all three.
Credit for prior learning: syllabi and originals
To have foreign courses counted, Madison College also needs syllabi or outlines of instruction for every course, and if they are not in English you have to have them translated into English by a translation service (Submit your transcripts).
Some agencies return your original credentials with the report; if yours did not, you can submit the originals you hold, or have the issuing school, exam board or ministry send official documents directly to Enrollment Services.

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Madison College
The translation of your diploma and transcripts goes to the evaluation agency with your documents, not to Madison College; the agency sends the official evaluation.
F-1 applicants upload English scores, financial and identity documents through the link emailed after applying (International student application steps).
Madison College does not accept emailed, faxed or scanned transcripts, even from the school, and destroys originals after imaging them (Submit your transcripts). Translated syllabi go to Enrollment Services with your transfer credit request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Madison College that means we translate your records and syllabi; the general or course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from One Earth, ECE or another NACES or AICE member after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send Madison College a translated transcript instead of an evaluation?
No. Madison College says translated credentials and transcripts are not a substitute for a formal credential evaluation (Submit your transcripts).
I am a Wisconsin resident with a diploma from abroad. Do I need an evaluation?
Yes. The evaluation rule applies to anyone whose credential was earned outside the US, not only F-1 applicants (Submit your transcripts).
Which evaluation agency should I use for Madison College?
It recommends One Earth and ECE and accepts any NACES member or AICE endorsed member (International student application steps). Check the agency's own translation rule before ordering.
Do my syllabi need a translation?
Yes, for transfer credit: syllabi or course outlines not in English must be translated by a translation service (Submit your transcripts).
Do transcripts from Puerto Rico need a translation?
No. For the US territories Madison College does not require a translation (Submit your transcripts).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
