How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Lower Columbia College publishes no translation rule of its own: students educated outside the US provide an evaluation from any NACES member, document by document to prove the equivalent of a US high school diploma for financial aid, or course by course for transfer credit.
Lower Columbia's evaluation agencies, such as WES and FIS, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency; the evaluation comes from the agency, not from us.

Lower Columbia requirements in detail
Translation
Lower Columbia states no translation rule; foreign records reach it through a NACES evaluation. The translation is what the agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency (see below).
High school equivalency
To show the equivalent of a US high school diploma for financial aid: a document-by-document evaluation from any NACES member (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation).
Transfer credit
A full course-by-course evaluation from any NACES member; credit may be for specific classes, a subject area or electives (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation).
Common agencies
Foundation for International Services and World Education Services; fees usually $200 to $275 (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation).
Where it goes
You or the agency send documents to Registration, PO Box 3010, Longview, or registration@lowercolumbia.edu (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation).
F-1 applicants
Official transcripts if transferring from a college or university (how to apply).
A foreign high school diploma and financial aid
Lower Columbia spells out a case many immigrant students meet: to receive financial aid you must show you completed the equivalent of a US high school diploma, and if your diploma is from abroad you prove it with a document-by-document evaluation from any NACES member (foreign transcript evaluation).
That is a shorter, cheaper report than a course-by-course one. You translate the diploma or leaving certificate and the final transcript, send them to the agency, and you or the agency send the report to Registration. See high school diploma translation.
College credit and what the agencies ask for the translation
For college courses taken outside the US, apply for admission first, then send a full course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation). Courses found equivalent may come in as specific LCC classes, generic credit in a subject, or electives.
The agency's rule decides the translation. WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator or service and does not accept translations by applicants.
FIS, the other agency LCC names, publishes its own requirements; ECE, another NACES member, accepts literal translations including the applicant's own or sells an $85 Translation Waiver.

- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.

Uploading the translation to Lower Columbia
The translation goes to the NACES agency with your records (WES takes it in your WES account); you or the agency then send the evaluation to Lower Columbia's Registration by mail or to registration@lowercolumbia.edu (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
At Lower Columbia that means the document-by-document or course-by-course evaluation comes from a NACES agency; we translate the diploma and transcripts for it.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
I have a high school diploma from another country. What does LCC need for financial aid?
A document-by-document evaluation from any NACES member showing the equivalent of a US high school diploma (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation).
Does Lower Columbia College require a certified translation?
LCC itself publishes no translation rule; the NACES agency asks for it, and WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).
Which evaluation is needed for transfer credit?
A full course-by-course evaluation, requested after you apply for admission (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation).
Can I send the evaluation to LCC myself?
Yes. LCC says you or the agency may send documents to Registration (Lower Columbia College: foreign transcript evaluation).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
