How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Guilford Technical Community College asks F-1 applicants for a certified copy of all previous academic records and, when a record is not in English, a certified copy of an English translation; it does not say who must translate.
Guilford Technical Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Credit for college study abroad is a separate step: the transcripts go to a NACES member, such as WES, for an evaluation that we do not provide.
GTCC at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
GTCC's foreign student admissions page asks for a certified English translation of records not in English and does not restrict who makes it (foreign student admissions); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. GTCC requirements in detail
Translation (F-1)
A certified copy of the original records covering all previous academic experience; if not in English, a certified copy of an English translation (Foreign student admissions (F-1 visa only)).
Who may translate
Not stated (Foreign student admissions (F-1 visa only)).
High school
A high school diploma is required, with no exceptions (Foreign student admissions (F-1 visa only)).
Transfer credit from abroad
Transcripts go to an agency recognized by NACES for an international evaluation; credits are reviewed case by case and may need department chair validation (Transfer credit and credit for prior learning).
Credits taken in English abroad
A placement test confirms whether they transfer (Transfer credit and credit for prior learning).
Where evaluations and transcripts go
Sealed transcripts by mail to P.O. Box 309, Jamestown, NC 27282; encrypted electronic transcripts to transcripts@gtcc.edu (Submitting transcripts).
Timing (F-1)
Apply at least two months before the semester; contact internationalstudents@gtcc.edu to start (Foreign student admissions (F-1 visa only)).
Admission: a certified copy and a certified translation
GTCC's F-1 checklist asks for a certified copy of the original educational record, covering every school you attended before, and adds that a record written in another language needs a certified copy of an English translation (foreign student admissions).
The same page says a high school diploma is required with no exceptions, so the diploma itself, not only the mark sheets, belongs in the translation order. See high school diploma translation for what we include.
Because GTCC wants a certified copy of the translation as well as of the original, keep the signed PDF we deliver and print it from that file; the certificate of accuracy is part of the translation and should stay attached to it.
Credit from a college abroad: NACES, case by case
The F-1 page says credit for international transcripts can be granted once they have been verified by an entity such as World Education Services (Foreign student admissions (F-1 visa only)); the transfer credit page puts it as an evaluation from any agency recognized by NACES (transfer credit).
Either way the evaluation comes from the agency, which sets its own translation rule; WES, for example, wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator. See translation for WES.
GTCC reviews international credit case by case, a department chair may have to validate it, and credits earned abroad in English still require a placement test to confirm they transfer (Transfer credit and credit for prior learning). A minimum C (2.0) applies to all transfer credit.

Uploading the translation to GTCC
F-1 applicants start with the International Admissions office (internationalstudents@gtcc.edu), which handles the application and the I-20 (Foreign student admissions (F-1 visa only)).
Official evaluations and sealed transcripts go by mail to GTCC, P.O. Box 309, Jamestown, NC 27282; schools sending encrypted electronic transcripts use transcripts@gtcc.edu (Submitting transcripts).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For GTCC that means we translate your diploma and records; the NACES evaluation needed for credit from a college abroad, and any placement test, are outside what we do.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does GTCC accept a translation from a translation company?
GTCC asks for a certified English translation and does not say who must make it (Foreign student admissions (F-1 visa only)). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that wording.
Do I need an evaluation to be admitted to GTCC?
The F-1 page asks for certified records and translations for admission; the NACES evaluation is described for transfer credit from international colleges (Transfer credit and credit for prior learning).
Which evaluation agency does GTCC accept?
Any agency recognized by NACES (Transfer credit and credit for prior learning); the F-1 page names World Education Services as an example (Foreign student admissions (F-1 visa only)).
My foreign courses were taught in English. Do they transfer automatically?
No. GTCC requires a placement test to confirm transferability of international credits earned in English (Transfer credit and credit for prior learning).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
