Requirements checked on October 27, 2026 from Gateway's public pages (sources).
Gateway Technical College in southeastern Wisconsin requires a general evaluation of foreign transcripts from almost every applicant, to verify secondary completion, and a course-by-course evaluation for transfer credit, from Educational Credential Evaluators, One Earth International Credential Evaluations, SpanTran or WES.
Gateway's evaluation agencies, such as ECE and WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency; the evaluation itself is something we do not produce.

Sample translation: a Mexican high school certificate
This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with invented names, school and numbers. The original in Spanish sits next to our English translation, and the PDF starts with the signed certification page. Bracketed text in the translation is a translator's note: each abbreviation is spelled out the first time it appears, and the layout follows the original line for line, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice
- CCT, CURP and the state abbreviation Jal. are spelled out in brackets the first time they appear, so an evaluator does not have to look up a Mexican acronym.
- Courtesy and degree titles (C., Mtra., Lic.) are kept as printed and explained once; names keep both surnames in place.
- Grades stay on the 5-to-10 scale the certificate prints, with its minimum passing grade. Converting them is the evaluator's job.
- The six semesters keep the certificate's two columns, and the seal, signatures and QR code are described in brackets where they appear.

Gateway requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own; the translation is what the evaluator needs.
Who may translate
Evaluation
A general evaluation is required unless your transcripts show a US degree (high school or higher) or admission to a UW system degree program (International transcript evaluation services).
Transfer credit
A course-by-course evaluation; Gateway does not charge for applying the credits (International transcript evaluation services).
Even in English
Transcripts may need evaluation even from an English-speaking country or an English-taught program (International transcript evaluation services).
Application
$30 fee; admission packet with Certification of Finances and emergency contact form; TOEFL or IELTS; passport (International students).
Where to send
oiss@gtc.edu, or Office of International Student Services, Racine Campus, 1001 S. Main Street (International students).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
Gateway names four agencies (transcript evaluation services).
ECE, in Milwaukee, asks for complete, literal, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original and lets applicants make their own; it also sells an $85 waiver to translate internally for the report.
One Earth, in Madison, generally lets applicants translate. WES requires a professional translator and refuses translations by applicants.
SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, wants an outside translator certified by ATA or translates in-house.
A certified eVerbary translation works for ECE, One Earth and WES; for SpanTran, ask eVerbary for a translator individually certified by ATA.
General or course-by-course
The general evaluation verifies that you completed secondary school or higher education outside the US, and Gateway requires it of all applicants unless official transcripts show a US degree or admission to a University of Wisconsin system degree program (International transcript evaluation services).
If you also want credit for college courses taken abroad, order a course-by-course evaluation instead. International students may enroll in any program except Aeronautics – Pilot Training (international students).
Need a certified translation for Gateway?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school diploma and transcripts, for the general evaluation
- College or university transcripts, for a course-by-course evaluation
- Bank statements for the Certification of Finances, if not in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Gateway
The translation goes to the evaluator with your transcripts; send the evaluation and the admission packet to Gateway's Office of International Student Services by email or mail (International students).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Gateway, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Gateway that means we translate your records for the agency; the general or course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from ECE, One Earth, SpanTran or WES.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Which evaluation agencies does Gateway accept?
Educational Credential Evaluators, One Earth International Credential Evaluations, SpanTran and WES (International transcript evaluation services).
Do I need an evaluation if my school taught in English?
Possibly; Gateway says transcripts may need evaluation even from an English-speaking country (International transcript evaluation services).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for a SpanTran evaluation?
Yes, on request through a free quote: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian at $34.95 per page, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian at $44.95. ATA certifies no other languages into English.
Are there programs international students cannot join?
Aeronautics – Pilot Training (International students).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
