Gateway Community and Technical College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Worth knowing about Gateway

Gateway requirements in detail

A translation service, notarized, delivered in person

Gateway is one of the few colleges that names the kind of translator it expects: transcripts not in English are translated to English using a language translation service, and English-language transcripts from abroad are accepted as they are (international transcripts).

What you hand in is the original high school transcript together with the original notarized translation, at the Admission Department on the Edgewood Campus.

Order the translation of the transcript and high school diploma with notarization added at checkout, and keep the paper original that comes back for delivery.

College credit from abroad: WES or ECE

College transcripts follow two steps: they are translated to English and they go through a credential or course evaluation.

Gateway recommends a detailed evaluation that includes course syllabi so transferable coursework earns credit, and from the NACES members approved by KCTCS it points to World Education Services or Educational Credential Evaluators, which send the report directly to the Admissions Office in Edgewood (Students with international transcripts).

WES accepts a word-for-word translation from a professional translator, not one made by the applicant; ECE accepts any complete, word-for-word translation and sells an $85 translation waiver. Translate the syllabi you send with the transcripts too.

Where Gateway's pages differ

The English Language Learners admission steps say that if you finished high school outside the US you submit a copy of your diploma, with translation not required, and that international college transcripts may need evaluation (English Language Learners).

The international transcripts page asks for the original transcript and a notarized translation (international transcripts). Ask Admissions which applies to you before you order.

Documents applicants usually translate

• High school diploma and transcripts
• College or university transcripts
• Course syllabi, for a detailed evaluation
• Grading scale printed with the transcripts

What an eVerbary translation includes

• A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
• Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
• A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
• $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Gateway

• Bring the original high school transcript and the original notarized translation to Gateway's Admission Department on the Edgewood Campus (Students with international transcripts).

For college credit, the translation also goes to WES or ECE, which mail the evaluation to the Admissions Office at 790 Thomas More Parkway, Edgewood, KY 41017.

• eVerbary delivers a signed PDF and, when notarization is added, the notarized copy; we can also email the translation directly to the admissions office on request.

How to order

2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
