NKU requirements in detail

Translation

Transcripts not in English need a certified translation (International undergraduate application process).

Who may translate

A professional translation agency (International admissions FAQs).

High school records

Official transcripts from all years of secondary school, sent by the school or given to you in a sealed, stamped envelope (International undergraduate application process).

University study abroad

Transcripts from every college attended, whether or not you want credit, plus a NACES course-by-course evaluation showing US credit hours, grades, overall GPA and degree (International undergraduate application process).

Transfers under 24 credits

Also send high school transcripts (International undergraduate application process).

Graduate

Official transcripts from all colleges and a NACES course-by-course evaluation; any NACES member, with an expedited process through SpanTran (graduate application).

A professional translation agency, in NKU's words

NKU answers the translation question directly in its FAQ: documents must be translated into English, and the translation must be done by a professional translation agency for NKU to accept them (international FAQ).

The undergraduate checklist adds that it must be certified (International undergraduate application process). An eVerbary translation is both: made by a professional service and delivered with a signed certificate of accuracy.

High school transcripts must cover every year of secondary school and come from the school, or be given to you in a sealed, stamped envelope (International undergraduate application process); the page does not say how the translation is sent, so ask International Student & Scholar Services. See high school diploma translation.

University study abroad: disclose it and evaluate it

NKU requires transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, even if you do not want transfer credit, and warns that leaving any university study off the application can lead to an admission offer being rescinded (International undergraduate application process).

Foreign university coursework must be evaluated course by course by a NACES member, with US credit hours, grades, overall GPA and degree.

Graduate applicants follow the same evaluation rule; NKU accepts any NACES member and offers an expedited process through SpanTran (International graduate application process).

SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, accepts outside translators only if certified by ATA (TEC); eVerbary can provide one on request through a free quote.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts, all years
  • Secondary diploma or leaving certificate
  • University transcripts from every institution attended
  • Degree certificates

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to NKU

  • Send the certified translations with your official records to International Student & Scholar Services; the NACES agency sends its evaluation separately (International undergraduate application process).

  • We can also email the translation directly to NKU on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For NKU that means we translate your school and university records; the NACES course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
