How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Eastern Washington University publishes no translation rule of its own: every foreign transcript, from high school or college, must go through an evaluation by a NACES member sent electronically to EWU, and graduate applicants need a course-by-course evaluation through WES or another NACES member.
EWU's evaluation agencies, such as WES and IERF, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Transfer credit also needs course descriptions in English; the evaluation itself comes from the agency, not from us.
EWU at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
EWU asks for an evaluation of all foreign transcripts from any NACES member (international apply), and WES, which its graduate page names, accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES translation rules); IERF, which offers EWU applicants a discount, accepts one as well. Worth knowing about EWU
High school too
Every foreign transcript goes through a NACES evaluation.
TEC or IERF discount
EWU applicants pay less with these two agencies.
Descriptions in English
Needed for each course you want transferred.
EWU requirements in detail
Translation
EWU states no translation rule; foreign transcripts reach it through a NACES evaluation. The translation is what the agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency: WES and IERF accept a professional service; TEC asks for an ATA-certified translator.
Evaluation (undergraduate)
All foreign transcripts, high school, college and university, evaluated by a NACES member and sent electronically to EWU; discounts through TEC and IERF (EWU Global: international undergraduate apply).
Course descriptions
For transfer credit, individual course descriptions in English for every course you want transferred (EWU Global: international undergraduate apply).
Evaluation (graduate)
A course-by-course evaluation through WES or another NACES member, with a chronological list of coursework; graduates of accredited US universities are exempt (graduate international).
Graduate transcripts
Most programs need one official, degree-bearing transcript with at least two years of credits (EWU: apply as an international graduate student).
Undergraduates: the evaluation covers high school as well
Unlike colleges that evaluate only foreign college credit, EWU asks first-year and transfer applicants to send original, official transcripts for all high school, college and university work, and says every foreign transcript must go through a NACES evaluation sent electronically to EWU (international apply).
Any NACES member is accepted, and EWU has discount links with TEC and IERF. Transfer students with fewer than 40 credits still send high school records.
If you want transfer credit, add individual course descriptions in English for each course (EWU Global: international undergraduate apply). Those descriptions are often longer than the transcript itself, so ask for a quote on the syllabi early.
What the agencies ask for the translation
IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations and may require a professional one.
WES, named on the graduate page, wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator or service and not the applicant's own.
The Evaluation Company wants an outside translator certified by the American Translators Association; if you take EWU's TEC discount, eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator through a free quote.
Graduate applicants
EWU's graduate admissions ask for one official transcript from the university where you earned your highest degree, plus a course-by-course evaluation through WES or another NACES member that lists your coursework chronologically (graduate international).
Music and School Psychology applicants send every transcript; Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences applicants submit through PTCAS, OTCAS or CSDCAS.
Need a certified translation for EWU?

Documents applicants usually translate
- High school transcripts and diploma
- University transcripts and degree certificates
- Course descriptions for each course you want transferred
- Letter confirming English-medium secondary school, if you use it for English proficiency
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to EWU
The translation goes to the NACES agency with your records (WES takes it in your WES account; IERF and TEC have EWU-specific application links); the agency sends its evaluation electronically to EWU (EWU Global: international undergraduate apply).
Course descriptions in English go to EWU Admissions with your transfer credit request (EWU Global: international undergraduate apply).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
At EWU that means the NACES evaluation comes from an agency such as IERF, TEC or WES; we translate the transcripts and course descriptions.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does EWU need my high school transcript evaluated?
Yes. EWU says all foreign transcripts you submit must go through a NACES evaluation (EWU Global: international undergraduate apply).
Which agency should I use for EWU?
Any NACES member; TEC and IERF give EWU applicants a discount, and the graduate page names WES (EWU Global: international undergraduate apply, EWU: apply as an international graduate student).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for The Evaluation Company?
Yes, on request through a free quote, for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) or Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page). ATA certifies no other languages into English (TEC).
Do I need course descriptions?
Only for transfer credit: individual descriptions in English for each course (EWU Global: international undergraduate apply).
What does the graduate evaluation need to show?
A course-by-course evaluation with a chronological list of coursework (EWU: apply as an international graduate student).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
