How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Eastern Kentucky University asks international first-year applicants whose secondary records are not in English, or not on a 4.00 scale, for an official evaluation and translation of the record, and names ECE, WES, The Evaluation Company and Josef Silny as services that can do both; it does not require the translation to come from them.
Eastern Kentucky University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, and ECE and WES accept them for their evaluations.
Transfers send college work from abroad to ECE, TEC or Josef Silny for a course-by-course evaluation, which we do not provide.

Worth knowing about EKU
Not on a 4.00 scale?
Even English records need an evaluation.
75% minimum
Or a 2.5 GPA equivalent.
Transfers: three agencies
ECE, TEC or Josef Silny, course by course.
EKU requirements in detail
Translation and evaluation (first-year)
Secondary records not in English or not on a 4.00 scale should have an official evaluation and translation (Information for international students).
Who may translate
Not restricted; EKU says ECE, WES, The Evaluation Company or Josef Silny can complete the translation if needed (Information for international students).
Minimum
Complete secondary records with a cumulative 75% (2.5 GPA equivalent) or higher, and an official copy of the diploma or graduation certificate (Information for international students).
Faster or cheaper
The Evaluation Company expedites EKU's receipt of the evaluation; Josef Silny has an EKU form with a discounted rate (Information for international students).
Transfers
College coursework from abroad goes to ECE, The Evaluation Company or Josef Silny for a course-by-course evaluation (Information for international students).
Application
Free online application; you must choose a major for the I-20 to be issued (Information for international students).
Which agency, and what it asks for the translation
EKU names four services for first-year applicants (international students), and their translation rules differ.
ECE accepts a complete, word-for-word translation, including your own, or sells an $85 waiver; WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator.
The Evaluation Company and Josef Silny & Associates accept outside translators in the US only if they are certified by ATA, and both translate in-house.
If you choose TEC for its faster delivery to EKU, or Josef Silny for its discount, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA on request through a free quote, for the languages ATA certifies. With ECE or WES, a standard eVerbary certified translation meets their published rules.
English records can need an evaluation too
EKU's trigger is the grading scale as well as the language: a secondary record in English but not on a 4.00 scale still needs an official evaluation (Information for international students).
The evaluated average must reach 75%, or a 2.5 GPA equivalent. Transfers have a narrower list for college work: ECE, The Evaluation Company or Josef Silny, with a course-by-course report; WES is not listed for transfer credit.
Need a certified translation for EKU?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts, all years
- High school diploma or graduation certificate
- College transcripts, for the course-by-course evaluation
- Grading scale printed on the transcript
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to EKU
The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records; the agency sends its evaluation to EKU.
Submit the diploma or graduation certificate and your passport copy with the free online application (Information for international students).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For EKU that means we translate your records; the GPA or course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from ECE, WES, TEC or Josef Silny.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does the translation have to come from the evaluation agency?
No. EKU says the named services can translate "if needed" (Information for international students); ECE and WES accept a certified translation from a professional service.
My transcript is in English. Do I still need an evaluation?
Yes, if it is not on a 4.00 scale (Information for international students).
What GPA does EKU require?
A cumulative 75%, or 2.5 GPA equivalent, on the secondary record (Information for international students).
Which agencies can transfers use?
ECE, The Evaluation Company or Josef Silny, with a course-by-course evaluation (Information for international students).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC or Josef Silny?
Yes, on request through a free quote: $34.95 per page for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian, $44.95 for Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian.
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
