Worth knowing about ECU
Two versions
Native-language records and an English copy.
NACES only
WES ICAP strongly recommended.
Bologna note
ECE and SpanTran not advised for 3-year degrees.
ECU requirements in detail
Translation (graduate)
Transcripts and diplomas showing your full education history in your native language, plus a notarized or certified copy in English (Graduate School: international students).
Who may translate
Not stated (Graduate School: international students).
Evaluation
A course-by-course evaluation of all foreign transcripts, from a NACES member only, showing at least the equivalent of a US bachelor's degree (Graduate School: international students).
Agencies with ECU portals
The Evaluation Company (SpanTran), World Education Services (ICAP strongly recommended), International Education Evaluations and ECE (Graduate School: international students).
Which transcripts
From every institution where a bachelor's or higher was earned or a degree is in progress, and others if transfer credit exceeds half of a degree (Graduate School: international students).
Financial evidence
Only if and when an offer of admission is made (Graduate School: international students).
Undergraduate
International undergraduates apply through ECU's international application portal; the open pages publish no separate translation rule (prospective international students).
The original and a notarized or certified English copy
ECU's Graduate School asks for two versions of every record: the transcripts and diplomas as issued in your native language, and a notarized or certified copy in English (Graduate School).
An eVerbary certified translation is the English copy; if you want it notarized as well, add notarization at checkout. Upload both versions together so the graduate office can match them.
The rule covers every institution where you earned a bachelor's or higher or are enrolled in a degree, so a master's applicant with a three-year bachelor's and a postgraduate diploma translates both sets of records, mark sheets and degree certificates included.
NACES only, and the agency matters for Bologna degrees
The evaluation must be course by course and from a NACES member; ECU has electronic portals with The Evaluation Company, WES, IEE and ECE, strongly recommends WES ICAP, and warns that ECE and SpanTran are not recommended for three-year Bologna degrees (Graduate School: international students).
If your bachelor's is a three-year European degree, that note points you to WES or IEE.
Each agency has its own translation rule. WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator; The Evaluation Company accepts outside translators only if they are certified by ATA, which eVerbary provides on request through a free quote. See translation for WES.
Need a certified translation for ECU?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts or mark sheets
- Master's or postgraduate diploma and transcripts
- Provisional certificates for a degree in progress
- Grading scale printed with the transcript
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to ECU
Upload the native-language records and the English copy with the ECU Online Graduate School Application, one set of documents per program (Graduate School: international students).
Send the same translation to the NACES agency with your records; it sends the evaluation to ECU through its portal (Graduate School: international students).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For ECU that means we translate (and, if you choose, notarize) your transcripts and diplomas; the NACES course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does ECU accept a translation from a translation company?
The Graduate School asks for a notarized or certified English copy and does not say who must make it (Graduate School: international students). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that wording.
Does the translation have to be notarized?
ECU accepts either a notarized or a certified copy in English (Graduate School: international students). eVerbary translations are certified; notarization is optional at $34.90 per order.
Which evaluation agency should I use for ECU?
Any NACES member; ECU strongly recommends WES ICAP and has portals with TEC, IEE and ECE (Graduate School: international students).
I have a three-year Bologna bachelor's. Does it matter which agency I use?
ECU says ECE and SpanTran are not recommended for three-year Bologna degrees (Graduate School: international students).
When do I submit bank documents?
Only if and when ECU offers you admission (Graduate School: international students).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
