Requirements checked on October 28, 2026 from Concordia-Chicago's public pages (sources).

Concordia University Chicago asks international undergraduates for foreign transcripts evaluated by ECE, its approved credentialing service, and graduate applicants for official sealed transcripts with certified English translations plus an evaluation from WES or ECE.

Concordia-Chicago's evaluation agencies, ECE and WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

The translation comes first; the evaluation is ordered from the agency and is something we do not produce.

Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

Concordia-Chicago requirements in detail

Translation (undergraduate)

No rule of its own; foreign transcripts reach Concordia-Chicago through the ECE evaluation (Prospective international students).

Translation (graduate)

Certified English translations of all transcripts originally in another language, sent with official sealed transcripts (Prospective international students).

Who may translate

Not restricted by Concordia-Chicago; ECE and WES set their own rules (see below).

Evaluation

Undergraduate: ECE. Graduate: WES or ECE (Prospective international students).

Deadlines

Undergraduate documents at least two months before the term; graduate documents at least four weeks before (Prospective international students).

English

TOEFL iBT 72, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 95, or ELS level 112; graduate also Password 6.0 or PTE 61 (Prospective international students).

I-20

Issued after admission is granted; graduate students must qualify for regular admission (Prospective international students).

Undergraduate and graduate rules differ

For bachelor's applicants, Concordia-Chicago asks for official transcripts of all college coursework, proof of secondary graduation and foreign transcripts evaluated by ECE (Prospective international students).

It says nothing about translations at this level, so the translation is what ECE needs to read records not in English.

Graduate applicants follow a stricter list: official, sealed transcripts from the institutions where degrees were earned, with certified English translations of every transcript originally prepared in another language, and an evaluation from WES or ECE (Prospective international students).

Here the certified translation is part of the application itself, not only of the agency file.

What ECE and WES ask for the translation

ECE wants complete, literal, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original and lets applicants prepare them; for $85 it sells a Translation Waiver, under which ECE translates internally for the report and no translation is delivered to you.

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations by applicants.

A certified translation from eVerbary meets both rules, and graduate applicants can send the same certified translation to Concordia-Chicago with their sealed transcripts.

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Concordia-Chicago

  • Undergraduates send the translation to ECE with their records; ECE sends its evaluation to Concordia-Chicago. All documents must reach the undergraduate admission office at least two months before the term (Prospective international students).

  • Graduate applicants send official sealed transcripts with the certified English translations to the Office of Graduate Admission and Student Services, and order the WES or ECE evaluation separately; questions go to iss@CUChicago.edu (Prospective international students).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Concordia-Chicago that means we translate your records; the ECE or WES evaluation is ordered by you from the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Which evaluation agency does Concordia-Chicago accept?

ECE for undergraduates; WES or ECE for graduate applicants (Prospective international students).

Do graduate applicants need certified translations?

Yes. Concordia-Chicago asks for certified English translations of all transcripts in another language (Prospective international students).

Can I translate my own transcripts for ECE?

ECE allows applicant translations if complete and word-for-word (ECE); a graduate application to Concordia-Chicago still needs certified translations (Prospective international students).

How early must documents arrive?
