How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Compton College requires every foreign transcript a student submits, whether for graduation eligibility, residency determination, special program requirements or any other reason, to be evaluated by an approved agency from the NACES members or the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing list.
Compton College's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and IERF, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

Compton College requirements in detail
Translation
Compton states no translation rule; foreign transcripts reach it only through an approved agency's evaluation (Admissions & Records: transcripts). The translation is what the agency needs first.
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency. WES, ECE and IERF accept a translation from a professional service.
Evaluation
Required for every foreign transcript: graduation eligibility, residency determination, special program requirements or any other reason (Admissions & Records: transcripts).
Accepted agencies
Members of NACES, or agencies approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Admissions & Records: transcripts).
Using the coursework
Submit the official transcripts, complete orientation and an educational plan with a counselor, then the External Transcript Articulation Request Form; evaluation takes 6 to 8 weeks (Admissions & Records: transcripts).
Delivery
Transcripts can be mailed, hand-delivered in a sealed envelope or sent electronically to Admissions and Records (Admissions & Records: transcripts).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
Compton accepts any NACES member, so the translation rule is the agency's.
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency or another professional service, and does not accept translations by applicants or translate documents itself.
ECE asks for complete, literal translations in the same format as the original, lets applicants translate themselves, and sells an $85 Translation Waiver under which it translates internally for the report.
IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations and does not require them to be notarized or sworn.
Other agencies set stricter rules; some ask for a translator certified by ATA. If the agency you choose does, ask eVerbary for a free quote and name the agency in the notes. Check the agency's own translation page before you order.
Not only for credit
Most colleges ask for an evaluation only when you want credit.
Compton's transcripts page applies the rule to any foreign transcript you submit, and names residency determination and special program requirements alongside graduation eligibility.
If you are using a diploma or transcript from abroad for any of those reasons, plan for the translation and the evaluation together, and for the 6 to 8 weeks Compton takes to evaluate outside coursework once the articulation request is in.

Uploading the translation to Compton College
The translation is not sent to Compton: it goes to the evaluation agency with your records (WES, for example, takes it in your WES account). The agency's evaluation then goes to Compton College Admissions and Records (Admissions & Records: transcripts).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Compton College that means we translate your records for the agency; the evaluation is ordered by you from a NACES or CTC-approved agency after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Compton College accept my foreign transcript directly?
No. It must be evaluated by an approved agency first (Admissions & Records: transcripts).
Which agencies does Compton College accept?
Members of NACES, or agencies approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Admissions & Records: transcripts).
Do I need an evaluation for residency?
Yes. Compton names residency determination among the reasons a foreign transcript must be evaluated (Admissions & Records: transcripts).
Can I translate my documents myself for the evaluation?
It depends on the agency: ECE allows it, WES does not (ECE, WES).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
