How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
College of the Redwoods publishes no translation rule of its own: F-1 applicants attach a high school diploma and, if they studied at a college outside the US, transcripts evaluated by an agency approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the same report CR needs to give credit.
College of the Redwoods' evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and IERF, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

College of the Redwoods requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own; the translation is what the evaluation agency needs before it can evaluate a record not in English.
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency. WES, ECE and IERF accept a professional translation; ACEI asks for an ATA-certified translator in the US.
Evaluation
College transcripts from outside the US, evaluated by an agency approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (International students).
Agencies listed
APIE, ACEI, ACREVS, AERC, ECE, ERES, FCSA, FCSA-West, IERF and WES, in the list included in the application packet (packet).
High school
A high school diploma is attached to the application; CR states no translation rule for it (International students).
Credit
Up to the equivalent of 30 semester units, fully applied only after you earn 12 units at CR; requests go to Evaluator@redwoods.edu and take 2–4 weeks (International Application Packet (PDF)).
What the evaluation must contain
CR's Transcript Evaluation Request in the international application packet sets out two levels.
A report that meets Section 1 describes the country's higher education system and the institution's place in it, verifies that the institution is approved by the country's ministry or accrediting body, converts hours into semester units and gives US letter grades, or the passing percentage for pass/fail and percentage grades; it can earn elective credit.
Adding Section 2, with each course's description, topics, lecture and lab hours and prerequisites, can earn course credit, up to the equivalent of 30 semester units.
Ask the agency for that detail when you order.
CR applies prerequisites as soon as it has the evaluated transcript, but applies the full evaluation only after you have earned 12 units at College of the Redwoods and submitted the request form (International Application Packet (PDF)).
If you want course credit, your course descriptions or syllabi will usually need translating too.
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
The list CR uses is the Commission on Teacher Credentialing's, and each agency on it sets its own translation rule.
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations by applicants.
ECE accepts word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, lets applicants translate themselves, and for $85 sells a waiver under which it translates internally for the report.
IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations and reserves the right to require a professional one.
ACEI is stricter: in the US it accepts translations by ATA-certified translators. FCSA, also on the list, accepts most professional agencies. Choose the agency first, then order the translation to its rules.

- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.

Uploading the translation to College of the Redwoods
Email the application packet, with the high school diploma and the evaluated college transcripts if you have them, to the International Program contact named in the packet, with "International Student Application" in the subject line (International Application Packet (PDF)).
The translation itself goes to the evaluation agency with your official records; after your first 12 units, send the Transcript Evaluation Request to Evaluator@redwoods.edu (International Application Packet (PDF)).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For College of the Redwoods that means we translate your records and course descriptions for the agency; the evaluation is ordered by you from an agency on the Commission's list.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does College of the Redwoods require a certified translation?
CR itself publishes no translation rule. It asks for college transcripts from outside the US evaluated by a Commission-approved agency (International students), and the agency sets the translation rule; WES wants a professional translator (WES).
Which agencies does CR accept?
Those approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing: APIE, ACEI, ACREVS, AERC, ECE, ERES, FCSA, FCSA-West, IERF and WES are on the list in the packet (International Application Packet (PDF)).
How much foreign credit can I get?
Up to the equivalent of 30 semester units, applied in full after you earn 12 units at CR (International Application Packet (PDF)).
Do I need course descriptions?
Only for course credit: Section 2 of the evaluation must include course descriptions, topics, hours and prerequisites (International Application Packet (PDF)).
When is the deadline?
June 1 for fall and November 1 for spring (International students).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
