How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Christopher Newport University asks international transfer applicants for official secondary school transcripts or leaving certificates with certified English translations if they are not in English, and sends their college transcripts to an official credential evaluator; it does not say who must translate.

Christopher Newport University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Graduate applicants send every transcript to WES, which accepts professional translations; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

CNU at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

CNU's international transfer page asks for certified English translations of secondary records not in English and does not restrict who makes them (international transfer students); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it, and WES, CNU's graduate evaluator, accepts one too (WES). College work reviewed

Graduate: WES only

CNU requirements in detail

Translation (transfer)

Official secondary school transcripts and/or leaving certificates; if not in English, certified English translations as well (International transfer students).

Who may translate

College transcripts (transfer)

Sent to an official credential evaluator, whose review of US equivalents goes directly to CNU (International transfer students).

Graduate

All secondary, college and university transcripts go to World Education Services, which sends its report directly to CNU (graduate international applicants).

Graduate financial documents

Official original bank statements or affidavits, less than six months old (Graduate admission: international applicants).

Application

Transfers apply through the Common Application; the College Officials Report and Instructor Evaluation are not required (International transfer students).

Transfers: translate the secondary record, evaluate the college record

CNU splits the international transfer file in two (international transfer students).

The secondary school transcripts and leaving certificates go to CNU as official documents, with certified English translations when they are in another language.

The college and university transcripts go instead to an official credential evaluator, who writes an analytical review of their US equivalents and sends a copy directly to CNU.

So the translation you send CNU is for the secondary record, and the agency you choose sets its own rule for the college record; see translation for credential evaluation.

Graduate applicants: everything through WES

For graduate programs CNU names one evaluator: all secondary, college and university transcripts go to World Education Services, and WES sends its report directly to CNU (graduate international applicants).

WES asks for an exact, word-for-word translation of documents not in English by a professional translator, such as a translation agency, and does not translate them itself. See translation for WES.

  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For CNU that means we translate your secondary and college records; the credential review or WES report comes from the evaluator.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does CNU accept a translation from a translation company?

CNU asks for certified English translations and does not say who must make them (International transfer students). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that wording.

Do transfers send college transcripts to CNU?

No, to an official credential evaluator, which sends its review directly to CNU (International transfer students).

Which evaluator do graduate applicants use?

World Education Services, for all secondary, college and university transcripts (Graduate admission: international applicants).

Will WES accept an eVerbary translation?

WES accepts word-for-word translations from a professional translator or translation service (WES).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
