Christian Brothers University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Christian Brothers University (CBU) asks international undergraduate and graduate applicants for official transcripts and, when it cannot evaluate a foreign transcript internally, for an evaluation from a NACES member agency, suggesting The Evaluation Company (TEC) or IEE. CBU's evaluation agencies, such as IEE and NACES members like WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. The order is translation first, then evaluation: you send the translation to the agency with your records, and the agency sends CBU the report, which we do not produce.

In-house first

CBU asks for a NACES evaluation only when it cannot evaluate the transcript itself.

TEC or IEE

The two agencies CBU names; its graduate page mentions discounts with both.

Nursing is different

The only CBU rule that names a translation: an official one.

What CBU asks for
TranslationCBU's central international pages publish no translation rule of their own. The translation is what the evaluation agency needs before it can evaluate a record not in English.
Evaluation, undergraduateSome transcripts need an evaluation through TEC (formerly SpanTran) or IEE (CBU: international undergraduate admissions); the catalog says the evaluation is requested from a NACES member (catalog).
Evaluation, graduateA NACES evaluation, course-by-course or detailed, when CBU cannot evaluate the transcript internally; the graduate page lists discounts with TEC and IEE (CBU: international graduate admissions, graduate catalog).
Who may translateSet by the agency: IEE wants a certified translator, not the applicant or a notary (IEE); TEC wants an ATA-certified translator or its own team (TEC).
NursingOfficial transcripts not in English require an official translation; the catalog does not say who makes it (catalog).
RecordsOfficial transcripts from every school attended, at both levels (undergraduate, graduate).
Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. CBU asks for an evaluation from a NACES member such as TEC or IEE (catalog, graduate admissions), and IEE accepts a translation by a certified translator (IEE FAQ), as do NACES members such as WES for professional translation services (WES). TEC is stricter: an outside translator must be certified by ATA (TEC). Policy checked on October 13, 2026.

CBU evaluates first, then asks for a NACES report

CBU does not send every international applicant to an agency. Its graduate catalog says a NACES evaluation is requested when an internal transcript evaluation cannot be performed (CBU catalog 2026-2027: graduate admissions policies), and the undergraduate page says only that some transcripts will need one (CBU: international undergraduate admissions). You may not know which case you are in until admissions looks at your records, so ask before you pay for a report.

When the report is needed, the graduate page asks for a course-by-course or detailed evaluation and names TEC and IEE as the agencies that offer CBU applicants a discount (CBU: international graduate admissions). Any other NACES member also qualifies under the catalog wording. CBU's pages do not say whether its own internal review needs a translation; if your records are not in English, ask admissions what to send with them.

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

IEE wants a translation by a certified translator and does not accept one made by the applicant or a notary public; translations from a university in your home country or its embassy are generally accepted. IEE also sells its own translation at $60 per page, and a translation adds two business days to its evaluation (IEE FAQ).

TEC says an outside translator must be certified by the American Translators Association (TEC: avoid delays with your academic evaluation); another TEC page says a certified translator, its own team or a member of ATA (TEC: facts and fictions of TEC credential evaluations). TEC's own translation can be ordered only after the evaluation application is complete. If you choose TEC, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA on request: ask for a free quote and note that it is for TEC.

Other NACES members: WES asks for a word-for-word translation by a professional translator or translation service and does not translate (WES); ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations and lets applicants translate their own documents, or buy an $85 waiver under which ECE translates internally for the report only (ECE).

Nursing: the one CBU rule that names a translation

The international applicant section of the nursing program in the 2026-2027 undergraduate catalog is the only CBU text that mentions translation: official transcripts not in English need an official translation, sent to the Office of Admissions (catalog). It does not say who may make it. A certified translation from a professional service, signed and on letterhead, is that kind of translation; if the nursing office has a narrower rule in mind, ask before you order.

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to CBU

If an evaluation is needed, the translation goes to the agency with your records, not to CBU: IEE takes it with the application, TEC through its online application, and WES in your WES account (IEE, TEC, WES). The agency then sends its report to CBU.

Transcripts for CBU itself go through the CBU admissions process, and nursing applicants send the transcript with its official translation to the Office of Admissions (undergraduate, catalog).

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian at $34.95 per page, and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian at $44.95 per page.

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for CBU, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office). We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them. For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For CBU that means we translate your records; the NACES evaluation (TEC, IEE or another member) is ordered by you from the agency after the translation is ready.

Frequently asked questions

Does CBU require a translation of my transcripts?

CBU's central undergraduate and graduate pages do not mention one. A translation is needed when your records go to an evaluation agency, which requires one for documents not in English, and for nursing, whose catalog section asks for an official translation (catalog).

Which evaluation agency should I use for CBU?

Any NACES member, when CBU asks for an evaluation. CBU names TEC and IEE, and its graduate page mentions discounts with both (CBU: international graduate admissions).

Will IEE accept an eVerbary translation?

IEE accepts translations by a certified translator and rejects those made by the applicant or a notary (IEE FAQ). An eVerbary translation is certified, with a signed statement of accuracy.

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC?

Yes, on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English. Ask for a free quote and write that the translation is for a TEC evaluation for CBU; we confirm the translator and price before you pay. TEC's rule is on its own page.

Do I need an evaluation if CBU can review my transcript itself?

No. CBU's catalog asks for a NACES evaluation only when an internal evaluation cannot be performed (CBU catalog 2026-2027: graduate admissions policies). Ask admissions before you order one.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
