How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
Boston College asks international undergraduate applicants to submit all documents in English and, when a credential is translated, to send the original along with the translation; the University Catalog does not say who must translate.
Boston College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Transfer applicants from foreign universities are encouraged, not required, to add a NACES course-by-course evaluation, while several graduate schools require one; evaluations come from an agency, not from us.
Boston College at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
The University Catalog asks for documents in English, with the original submitted along with any translation, and does not restrict who translates (University Catalog); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

NACES course-by-course encouraged, not required.
School-by-school graduate rules

Boston College requirements in detail
Translation (undergraduate)
All documents in English; if a credential must be translated, the original is submitted along with the translation (University Catalog: undergraduate admission).
Who may translate
Not stated for undergraduate admission.
Evaluation (transfer)
Encouraged, not required: a NACES course-by-course evaluation of foreign university transcripts; the Office of Transfer Admission evaluates courses itself (Transfer applicants).
Official transcripts (transfer)
High school transcript sent by the school; college transcripts by email to transfer@bc.edu or by mail; faxed or student-issued copies are not official (Transfer applicants).
Deadlines
English proficiency
Non-US citizens submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo unless an exemption applies (International applicants (Undergraduate Admission)).
Graduate schools
Morrissey: certified translation plus a NACES evaluation on enrollment (Morrissey College Graduate School: admission). Social Work: certified (notarized) translation (School of Social Work: how to apply (MSW)).
Carroll: official translation plus a TEC or WES verification if admitted (Carroll School of Management: international applicants).
Undergraduate: the rule lives in the catalog
Boston College's undergraduate admission pages for international students cover testing and English proficiency, but the translation rule is in the University Catalog: international students submit the same credentials as domestic applicants, all documents should be submitted in English, and when a credential must be translated, the original goes with the translation. The catalog does not ask for an evaluation or say who translates.
In practice that means two documents per record: the original transcript or exam certificate, and the certified English translation that mirrors it. Keep the original title of the diploma and the grading scale in the translation so readers can match the two.
Transfer: Boston College evaluates courses itself
Transfer applicants send official college transcripts by email to transfer@bc.edu or by mail, and the high school transcript directly from the school; faxed transcripts and copies issued to students are not accepted as official (Transfer applicants).
Course evaluations are done by the Office of Transfer Admission, and a course must match BC's in depth and breadth with a grade of C- or better.
For applicants from foreign colleges, BC encourages but does not require an official course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member, to help it read your history in US terms (Transfer applicants). If you order one, the agency sets its own translation rule; see translation for credential evaluation.
Graduate schools each set their own rule
The Morrissey College Graduate School asks for a certified English translation in addition to the original-language document, accepts unofficial copies for review, and requires a NACES course-by-course evaluation upon enrollment for degrees earned abroad (Morrissey College Graduate School: admission).
The School of Social Work asks that copies validated by a registrar or issuing official be attached to a certified (notarized) English translation, and that a NACES evaluation be uploaded (School of Social Work: how to apply (MSW)); eVerbary can add notarization at checkout ($34.90 per order).
The Carroll School of Management asks admitted international students for an official English translation of all credentials plus a third-party degree verification from an agency such as SpanTran/TEC or WES, and applicants first self-report their transcript with course names in English (Carroll School of Management: international applicants).
The Lynch School needs an official NACES evaluation before review can begin (Lynch School: deadlines and requirements), and Woods College requires a course-by-course evaluation from ECE, CED, WES or TEC, noting that an evaluation is not just a translation (Woods College of Advancing Studies: international students).

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Boston College
First-year applicants apply through the Common Application and follow their Applicant Portal; send each translated credential together with its original (catalog, portal).
Graduate applicants upload documents to their school's application: Morrissey accepts unofficial copies for review and officials after matriculation (Morrissey College Graduate School: admission); Social Work takes e-transcripts at swadmit@bc.edu (School of Social Work: how to apply (MSW)).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Boston College that means we translate your records; the NACES evaluations that Morrissey, Social Work, Lynch and Woods College require, and the TEC or WES verification for Carroll, come from an evaluation agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I send the original transcript with the translation?
Yes. The catalog says the original must be submitted along with the translation (University Catalog: undergraduate admission).
Who can translate my documents for Boston College?
The undergraduate rule does not say; it asks for documents in English with the original attached (University Catalog: undergraduate admission). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
Do transfer applicants need WES?
No. BC encourages a NACES course-by-course evaluation for foreign university transcripts but does not require it (Transfer applicants).
Does the School of Social Work require notarization?
Yes. It asks for copies validated by the issuing institution attached to a certified (notarized) English translation (School of Social Work: how to apply (MSW)). eVerbary can add notarization at checkout ($34.90 per order).
When does the Lynch School need my evaluation?
Before review can begin; Lynch suggests starting about a month before your program deadline (Lynch School: deadlines and requirements).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
