How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Bellarmine University publishes no translation rule for undergraduates: applicants with secondary or college records from outside the US submit them to SpanTran (now The Evaluation Company) or World Education Services for a course-by-course evaluation.
Bellarmine's evaluation agencies, such as WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; SpanTran takes outside translations only from ATA-certified translators, whom eVerbary can assign on request.
You order the translation first, then the evaluation, which we do not provide; graduate applicants follow a different rule.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Bellarmine asks undergraduate applicants for a course-by-course evaluation from SpanTran or WES (admission requirements), and WES accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES translation rules); SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, asks for an ATA-certified translator. Worth knowing about Bellarmine
SpanTran or WES
The only two agencies named for undergraduates.
High school too
Secondary records go through the evaluation.
Graduate in house
Bellarmine evaluates graduate records itself.
Bellarmine requirements in detail
Translation
No undergraduate rule of its own; records from outside the US reach Bellarmine through the evaluation (Admission requirements for international students).
Who may translate
Set by the agency: WES accepts a professional translator; SpanTran/The Evaluation Company wants an ATA-certified translator.
Evaluation (first-year)
Course by course from SpanTran or WES, for secondary and post-secondary records alike (Admission requirements for international students).
Transfer
An official evaluation of college credit earned outside the US from WES or The Evaluation Company, plus TOEFL, IELTS or MELAB (Transfer students).
Graduate
Certified copies of records to gradadmissions@bellarmine.edu; Bellarmine evaluates and translates them, and says no outside evaluation such as WES is needed (How to apply: international graduate students).
Funding
A bank statement or letter of commitment covering one academic year (Admission requirements for international students).
SpanTran or WES: two different translation rules
Bellarmine names only two agencies, and they treat translations differently.
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation service, and does not accept translations by applicants.
SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, accepts an outside translation only from a translator certified by the American Translators Association, or translates through its own team.
If you choose SpanTran, ask eVerbary for a free quote for an ATA-certified translator (see below); if you choose WES, a standard certified translation fits.
Because the rule covers secondary as well as college records (Admission requirements for international students), first-year applicants translate the full high school diploma and every year of transcripts before opening the agency file.
Transfer applicants whose first language is not English send the same kind of evaluation for credit earned abroad (transfer admissions).
Graduate applicants: a different rule
For degree-seeking international graduate students, Bellarmine asks for certified copies of all post-secondary records, marks and diploma, sent to gradadmissions@bellarmine.edu, and says it will evaluate and translate them, with no need for an outside evaluation or translation such as WES.
The same paragraph also says the certified copies must be translated into English and bear the school's official seal (graduate application).
Read together, graduate records seem to come from your school, translated by it or checked by Bellarmine; ask Graduate Admissions before ordering a translation for a graduate application.

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.

Uploading the translation to Bellarmine
Undergraduates send the translation with their records to SpanTran or WES; the agency sends the course-by-course evaluation to Bellarmine (Admission requirements for international students).
Graduate applicants email certified copies of their records to gradadmissions@bellarmine.edu (How to apply: international graduate students). On request we can email a translation directly to the admissions office.
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Bellarmine, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Bellarmine that means we translate your records for the agency; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from SpanTran or WES.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Bellarmine require a certified translation?
For undergraduates it requires a course-by-course evaluation from SpanTran or WES (Admission requirements for international students); the agency sets the translation rule. WES wants a professional translator (WES).
Do my high school records need an evaluation?
Yes. The rule covers secondary as well as post-secondary records from outside the US (Admission requirements for international students).
Do graduate applicants need WES?
No. Bellarmine says it evaluates and translates graduate records itself, with no outside evaluation needed (How to apply: international graduate students).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for Bellarmine?
Yes, on request, for example if you use SpanTran. Ask for a free quote and note that the translation is for a SpanTran evaluation for Bellarmine University and needs a translator individually certified by ATA. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
