How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Appalachian State University asks international applicants to send official English translations with every document not in English, except high school transcripts in Spanish, which it accepts as issued; it does not say who must translate.
Appalachian State University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
App State evaluates high school records itself, while credit from a foreign university and graduate admission need an evaluation from a NACES member, which we do not provide.
App State at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

App State requirements in detail
Translation
All international documents need official English translations if the originals are in another language; high school transcripts in Spanish are the exception (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
Who may translate
Not stated (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
Originals
Documents must be original or attested; faxes and photocopies count only if certified by a Ministry of Education, the school or a US embassy official, case by case (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
High school evaluation
Done by App State, based on your standing in your own system; it converts grades to the 4.0 scale, and first-year applicants below a 2.8 weighted GPA send SAT or ACT scores (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
Credit from a foreign university
A course-by-course evaluation from any NACES member; The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran) is recommended and has a discounted App State application (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
Graduate
Unofficial transcripts from every college where you earned a degree or studied in the past five years, evaluated by a NACES member (graduate international applicants).
Translate everything, except a Spanish high school transcript
App State's rule is broad: every international document in another language goes with an official English translation, and the one exception is a high school transcript in Spanish (international student admission).
A Spanish-language university transcript, a diploma or a bank document still needs translating; a transcript in Portuguese, French or any other language does too. See high school diploma translation.
Documents must be originals or attested copies.
Photocopies are considered only if a Ministry of Education, the school or a US embassy official certified them, and then case by case (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
If you have not graduated yet, send your most current transcripts and the final ones later.
App State reads the grades; NACES evaluates foreign credit
For high school abroad, App State evaluates your transcripts against your own educational system and converts your grades to its 4.0 scale itself, so no outside evaluation is needed for first-year admission (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
An evaluation enters only when you want credit for university courses taken abroad: a course-by-course report from a NACES member, with The Evaluation Company as the recommended service.
The Evaluation Company accepts outside translators only if they are certified by the American Translators Association, or translates in-house (TEC); eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request through a free quote.
Graduate applicants send unofficial transcripts that must be evaluated by a NACES member; the Graduate School offers a form for a discounted evaluation (Graduate School: international graduate applicant).

Uploading the translation to App State
Undergraduates send the translations with the official or attested records as part of the international application (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
Graduate applicants upload unofficial transcripts with the application; the NACES evaluation follows from the agency (Graduate School: international graduate applicant).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For App State that means we translate your records; the NACES course-by-course evaluation for foreign university credit or graduate admission comes from the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions

No. App State accepts high school transcripts in Spanish without a translation; all other documents in another language need an official English translation (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
Does App State accept a translation from a translation company?
App State asks for official English translations and does not say who must make them (Undergraduate admissions: international student). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that wording.
Do I need a credential evaluation for first-year admission?
No. App State evaluates foreign high school transcripts itself and converts the grades (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
How do I get credit for university courses taken abroad?
With a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member; App State recommends The Evaluation Company (Undergraduate admissions: international student).
What do graduate applicants submit?
Unofficial transcripts, evaluated by a NACES member, for every degree earned and any college attended in the past five years (Graduate School: international graduate applicant).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
