How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
Denver Public Schools asks high school students who apply through its Foreign Exchange Student Program, on an F-1 or a J-1 visa, for a transcript of their grades translated into English.
Neither the program page nor the district regulation says who must translate, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets the rule.
Families who move to Denver are not given a translation rule: the home school reviews the student's educational background at registration, and eVerbary translates documents but does not decide admission, credit or grade placement.
DPS at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
DPS lists a "translated transcript of student grades" among the documents its exchange program requires (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program), and regulation JFABB-R asks for a recent official transcript with an English translation (regulation); neither restricts who translates, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. DPS requirements in detail
Translation
Exchange applicants submit a translated transcript of their grades (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program); regulation JFABB-R describes it as a recent official transcript with English translation showing courses taken and grades earned (Denver Public Schools: Regulation JFABB-R, Admission of Foreign Exchange Students).
Who may translate
Not specified (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program, regulation). A certified translation from a professional service meets the rule.
Who applies
DPS accepts high school students on F-1 or J-1 visas. J-1 students come through an approved exchange agency on the CSIET list; F-1 students email Enrollment Services at foreignexchange@dpsk12.net (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program).
Eligibility
Students entering 10th or 11th grade for one or two semesters, under 18 at the start, proficient in English and living with a family inside the DPS boundary; the transcript must show a 3.0 GPA or higher (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program).
Other documents
A student profile, a handwritten letter of application, a birth certificate or passport, immunization records, medical insurance valid in the US and proof of English proficiency such as an ELTiS score; for F-1 requests the adult sponsor adds proof of residence and Form I-134 (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program).
Timing
For 2026-27, applications for the full year or fall ran from April 6 to July 17, 2026, and for the spring semester from September 1 to November 20, 2026, by email only; review can take up to 30 days (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program).
Families moving to Denver
Enrollment at a boundary school asks for proof of address and immunization records, plus high school transcripts for grades 9-12, with no rule on their language (Denver Public Schools: Current-Year Enrollment (2026-27)).
How an exchange application moves through DPS
Applications go by email to foreignexchange@dpsk12.net, not to the schools: the district asks applicants not to contact schools directly.
The Designated School Official screens each file and forwards it to a participating high school, a step that can take up to 30 days (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program).
For 2026-27 the participating schools are Bruce Randolph, CEC Early College, George Washington, John F. Kennedy, North, Northeast Early College, South, Thomas Jefferson and West.
Regulation JFABB-R adds the rules behind the page (Denver Public Schools: Regulation JFABB-R, Admission of Foreign Exchange Students).
Applications must be approved at least 30 days before the semester; the student attends the school of the host family's attendance area unless a transfer is approved; and the sponsor and student come to the school to complete enrollment on arrival.
J-1 students are not charged tuition, while F-1 students, who may stay no more than twelve months, reimburse the full unsubsidized cost of their education in advance by certified or cashier's check.
What the translated transcript has to show
DPS uses the transcript for two decisions: whether the student meets the 3.0 grade point average the program requires, and which courses were taken and what grades were earned (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program, regulation).
The regulation also expects average or above-average grades at home and five classes per term in Denver, including English or language arts and American history or government.
We translate every subject, mark and grading scale exactly as printed, keep the school name and stamps, and never convert marks to a US GPA; whether the record reaches 3.0 is for the district to determine.
Send the transcript of every year completed, since the program admits students entering 10th or 11th grade.
Where DPS's pages differ
The program page asks for a "translated transcript" and a handwritten letter of application (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program); regulation JFABB-R, last revised in June 2016, asks for an official transcript with English translation and an application letter written in English (Denver Public Schools: Regulation JFABB-R, Admission of Foreign Exchange Students).
Submitting the official transcript together with its certified English translation satisfies both wordings.
For families who move to Denver, DPS publishes no translation rule. Students new to the country are reviewed at the home school during registration and may be referred to one of the district's Newcomer Centers, which serve students with limited or interrupted schooling.

Documents families usually translate
- High school transcript or report cards from the home country
- Birth certificate
- Immunization records
- Medical insurance certificate, when issued in another language
- School leaving or enrollment certificates
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to DPS
Include the original transcript and its certified English translation in the application emailed to foreignexchange@dpsk12.net (F-1 students), or in the packet the exchange agency sends to DPS (J-1 students) (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program).
Families enrolling at a boundary school give their documents to the school; DPS's enrollment hotline is 720-423-3493 (Denver Public Schools: Current-Year Enrollment (2026-27)).
What we do not do
eVerbary translates documents; it is not the school district, and it does not decide grade placement or credit. Interpreters for meetings with the school are a separate service: see interpreters for parent-teacher conferences.
For DPS that means we translate the transcript and other records; the eligibility review, the GPA determination and the school placement are the district's.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does DPS require an exchange student's transcript in English?
Yes. The Foreign Exchange Student Program requires a translated transcript of grades (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program), and regulation JFABB-R asks for an official transcript with English translation (Denver Public Schools: Regulation JFABB-R, Admission of Foreign Exchange Students).
Who can translate the transcript?
DPS does not say (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary, with a signed certificate of accuracy, meets the rule.
Does the transcript need to show a minimum GPA?
Yes. The program requires a 3.0 or higher grade point average (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program). We translate the grades as printed; the district decides whether the record meets the minimum.
When can I apply for the spring semester?
For 2026-27, from September 1 to November 20, 2026, by email only to foreignexchange@dpsk12.net (Denver Public Schools: Foreign Exchange Student Program).
We moved to Denver with school records in Spanish. Do they need a translation?
DPS publishes no translation rule for families: boundary-school enrollment asks for proof of address, immunization records and, for grades 9-12, high school transcripts (Denver Public Schools: Current-Year Enrollment (2026-27)). Ask the school whether an English version would help with course placement.
