How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
Anne Arundel County Public Schools evaluates foreign high school records itself: a counselor at the International Student and Family Welcome Center (IWC) interviews the student and decides which credits transfer.
Its published rule asks for a translation in one case, students returning from study abroad, who submit the foreign transcript in the original and translated into English, without a rule on who translates, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it.
Families arriving from abroad are asked for their records, not a translation; a translation can still help the counselor, but eVerbary does not decide credit.
AACPS at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
For students returning from study abroad, AACPS asks for the foreign transcript "original and translated into English" (IWC page) and does not say who must translate, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about AACPS
Counselor interview
The IWC counselor decides which high school credits transfer.
Study abroad: translated
Returning students submit the original and an English translation.
Official records only
Credits transfer only when official documentation is presented.
AACPS requirements in detail
Translation
Students returning from study abroad submit the foreign transcript, original and translated into English, to the IWC school counselor (AACPS International Student & Family Welcome Center). The newcomer registration list asks for records but not for a translation (IWC registration requirements).
Who may translate
Not specified; a certified translation from a professional service satisfies the study-abroad rule.
Records to bring
Students who attended school abroad in grade 8 and above bring every transcript, record, exam score or end-of-year report card for each of those years (AACPS International Student & Family Welcome Center, AACPS IWC registration requirements).
Credit or placement
An IWC school counselor interviews the student to decide which high school credits transfer toward graduation; credits transfer only on official documentation (evaluation overview).
Subject rules
English credit depends on the WIDA screener level, math on a placement test plus a passing grade on the transcript, science may count as International Science Credit, and electives follow weekly hours (AACPS Foreign High School Transcript Evaluation overview, rev. October 2025).
Language help
The IWC states it can communicate in any language and registers students arriving from international schools (AACPS International Student & Family Welcome Center).
Course descriptions
Students studying abroad are encouraged to bring the foreign school's official course descriptions in English (Study Abroad Agreement).
Two situations, two rules
AACPS publishes its foreign-records rules on the IWC page.
Families arriving from outside the United States register through the IWC, which verifies documents, screens English and evaluates prior school transcripts; its checklist asks for transcripts, exam scores or report cards for grade 8 and above, and says nothing about translating them (IWC page, registration requirements).
AACPS students who leave to study abroad are in a different position: on return, the foreign transcript must reach the IWC counselor in the original and translated into English before credits are evaluated (AACPS International Student & Family Welcome Center), and the Study Abroad Agreement adds that the evaluation happens before the student re-enrolls in the home high school.
For a returning student, order the translation as soon as the foreign school issues the final transcript, so the evaluation is not held up.
For a newcomer, a translation is not on the checklist; families who want the counselor to see an English version of the transcript can bring one alongside the original.
How the IWC counselor awards credit
The evaluation overview (revised October 2025) sets subject rules.
English credit depends on the WIDA screener result: level 3.5 or above can earn up to one English credit per year studied, lower levels earn ELD or independent study credit.
Math credit needs both a passing section on the IWC math placement test and a passing grade on the foreign transcript.
Biology, chemistry and physics taught together may count as International Science Credit, world history only counts when the course covered it, and electives are converted from hours per week.
Because the counselor works from course names, hours and grades, a translation should keep every subject, the weekly hours where the record shows them, and the grading scale as printed. We translate marks exactly as recorded and do not convert them; the conversion is the counselor's.
Where AACPS's pages differ
The IWC page says students who completed the equivalent of grades 9 through 11 abroad are interviewed; the October 2025 overview says grades 8 through 11 (IWC page, overview). Both ask for records from grade 8 onward, so bring them either way.
Need a certified translation for AACPS?

What an eVerbary translation includes

- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to AACPS
Students returning from study abroad give the original foreign transcript and its English translation to the IWC school counselor for the credit evaluation (AACPS International Student & Family Welcome Center).
Newcomer families start by calling the IWC at 667-492-4802; documents are uploaded as PDF or JPEG in the registration portal, and records not available at registration should follow as soon as possible (AACPS International Student & Family Welcome Center, AACPS Foreign High School Transcript Evaluation overview, rev. October 2025).
What we do not do
eVerbary translates documents; it is not the school district, and it does not decide grade placement or credit. Interpreters for meetings with the school are a separate service: see interpreters for parent-teacher conferences.
For AACPS that means we translate the records; credit transfer, placement and English support are decided by the IWC counselor.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does AACPS require a translation of foreign school records?
For students returning from study abroad, yes: the transcript goes to the IWC counselor in the original and translated into English (AACPS International Student & Family Welcome Center). The registration checklist for families arriving from abroad asks for records, not a translation (AACPS IWC registration requirements).
Who can translate the study-abroad transcript?
AACPS does not say. A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary, with a signed certificate of accuracy, meets the rule.
How does AACPS decide which credits my child gets?
An IWC school counselor interviews the student and applies subject rules: WIDA level for English, a placement test plus transcript grades for math, weekly hours for electives (AACPS Foreign High School Transcript Evaluation overview, rev. October 2025).
Which years of records should we bring?
Every year from grade 8 onward completed outside the United States (AACPS IWC registration requirements).
Can the IWC talk with us in our language?
The IWC states it can communicate in any language (AACPS International Student & Family Welcome Center).
