How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

The Washington Medical Commission says transcripts not in English must have an official translation, without saying who must make it, and asks for transcripts only when its Licensing Unit requests them.

Washington Medical Commission accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

International graduates who are ECFMG certified can use that certification in place of medical school transcripts; we translate, we do not verify.

Washington Medical Commission at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

The Commission's physician requirements say transcripts not in English must have an "official translation" and do not name the translator (physician and surgeon requirements), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Washington Medical Commission requirements in detail

Translation

Transcripts not in English must have an official translation (Physician and surgeon license requirements).

Who may translate

Not stated. A certified translation from a professional service meets the wording.

When transcripts are needed

Only when the Licensing Unit directs; the official transcript, with degree and date posted, comes directly from the program (Physician and surgeon license requirements).

Original or copy

International graduates may have certified copies sent from another state, or send the original to the department for copying (Physician and surgeon license requirements).

ECFMG

Graduates of schools outside the US, Canada or Puerto Rico need an ECFMG certificate with indefinite status, a Fifth Pathway, or a pre-1958 state license (WAC 246-919-340). ECFMG certification is accepted in place of medical school transcripts (Physician (MD) application).

How to apply

Washington online application, the Uniform Application with FCVS, or the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (Physician (MD) application).

Clinical experience license

A separate license for international medical graduates in a clinical experience program; it also requires valid ECFMG certification (IMG clinical experience license information).

When you need the translation at all

Washington is unusual: it tells applicants not to request official transcripts unless the Licensing Unit asks, and it accepts ECFMG certification in place of medical school transcripts for international graduates (Physician and surgeon license requirements, Physician (MD) application).

Many ECFMG-certified applicants therefore never send a foreign transcript.

If the Licensing Unit does ask, the transcript must come directly from your program, and if it is not in English it must have an official translation (Physician and surgeon license requirements).

International graduates may also send the original transcript to the department for copying; the translation goes with it.

ECFMG's own translation rule

ECFMG certification, which the Commission requires of international graduates (WAC 246-919-340, international medical school graduates), has its own translation rule: word for word, by a government official, medical school official or professional translation service, never by the applicant (ECFMG: English translations).

A certified translation from us meets ECFMG's rule and the Commission's.

Need a certified translation for Washington Medical Commission?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Medical school transcripts, if the Licensing Unit asks for them
  • Medical diploma
  • Foreign medical license and good-standing letters
  • Marriage certificate or court order for a name change

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to Washington Medical Commission

  • If the Licensing Unit asks for transcripts, the official transcript comes from your program, or you send the original to the department for copying, with the translation attached (Physician and surgeon license requirements).

  • The Commission notifies you by email if it needs additional documentation (Physician (MD) application); send the translation together with the original you are asked for.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.

For Washington that means we translate your records; ECFMG certifies them and your program sends any transcript.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.

International graduates may send the original to the department for copying (Physician and surgeon license requirements).
