How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The Vermont Board of Medical Practice says that if medical school transcripts are not in English, an original, certified and official English translation is required, and it does not say who must make it.
Vermont BMP accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
The translation travels with the packet your dean mails to the Board (or you use FCVS instead), and international graduates also need an ECFMG certificate; we translate, we do not verify.
Vermont BMP at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
The Board's Medical Education Verification form requires an original, certified and official English translation of transcripts not in English, without naming the translator (MD application forms), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Vermont BMP requirements in detail
Translation
If transcripts are not in English, an original, certified and official English translation is required (MD initial application forms).
Who may translate
Not stated. A certified translation from a professional service meets the wording.
Original or copy
The dean certifies a copy of the diploma with the school seal and mails it, the official transcript and the form to the Board (MD initial application forms). The translation must be an original, not a photocopy.
FCVS
If you use FCVS, you do not complete the school verification form; FCVS verifies the data (MD initial application forms).
ECFMG
Required for graduates of schools outside the United States or Canada, unless they completed a Fifth Pathway program (Rule 15.2.3, Board of Medical Practice rules, effective May 1, 2024).
Proof of identity
A certified birth certificate or a copy of a naturalization certificate (Rule 15.2.2, Board of Medical Practice rules, effective May 1, 2024).
English
Applicants must be competent in speaking, writing and reading English (Rule 15.1.2, Board of Medical Practice rules, effective May 1, 2024).
How the translation reaches the Board
Vermont uses the Uniform Application's Medical Education Verification form.
You complete Section 1 and send the form with a copy of your diploma to your dean; the dean completes Section 2, seals the diploma copy and mails it, the official transcript and the form to the Board.
The form adds that transcripts not in English need an original, certified and official English translation (MD initial application forms).
Because the school mails the packet, the translation has to reach the dean before the packet leaves. Ask the school whether it will enclose a translation you provide; send the original certified translation (not a copy), since the form asks for an original.
FCVS and ECFMG
If you use FCVS, you skip the school verification form (MD initial application forms), and FCVS gathers your education records.
International graduates also need an ECFMG certificate (Board of Medical Practice rules, effective May 1, 2024).
ECFMG accepts translations from a professional translation service and does not accept translations made by applicants (ECFMG: English translations); a certified translation from us meets both.

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Medical school transcripts
- Medical diploma
- Birth certificate, as proof of identity and age
- Marriage certificate or court order for a name change
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to Vermont BMP
Give your dean the original certified translation of the transcript with the verification form, so it travels in the sealed packet the school mails to the Board (MD initial application forms).
Other documents, such as a birth certificate, go with your online application through the Board's licensing portal (Applications, licensing and fees).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.
For Vermont that means we translate your transcripts and identity documents; we do not complete the school verification form, request your ECFMG certificate or build your FCVS profile.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
