How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

The State Board of Education of Ohio requires educators with college coursework or teacher preparation from outside the United States to submit a course-by-course analysis from one of the 16 credential evaluation services on its list, and it accepts no others.

The Board publishes no translation rule of its own; WES, one of the listed services, accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, and so do ECE, IERF, Educational Perspectives and IEE.

We translate your diplomas and transcripts for the evaluator; the analysis and the license decision come from the evaluator and the Board.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Ohio accepts credential evaluations only from the services on its approved list (approved evaluators), which includes World Education Services, and WES accepts a translation by a professional translator or certified translation agency (WES translation rules), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets the evaluator's rule. Worth knowing about Ohio State Board of Education

16 approved evaluators

The Board accepts no evaluation from any other service.

Course by course

A degree-equivalency statement alone is not enough.

Licensure moved

Now handled on the State Board of Education site.

Ohio State Board of Education requirements in detail

Translation

No rule of the Board on its licensure pages (Educator licensure: information and resources); the evaluator's rule applies to records not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluator. WES asks for a professional translator and refuses applicant translations (WES); ECE accepts any complete word-for-word translation (ECE).

Evaluation

A course-by-course analysis for any college or university coursework or teacher preparation program completed outside the US (Approved international credential evaluation services, transcript instructions).

Approved evaluators

ACEI, ACREVS, American Education and Translation Services, ECE, Educational Perspectives, ERES, FIS, Globe Language Services, IFCS, IEE, IERF, Josef Silny and Associates, Scholaro, The Evaluation Company, Ucredo and WES (Approved international credential evaluation services).

US transcripts

Original, official transcripts uploaded as one PDF per university with the registrar's signature and key visible, or sent electronically by the college; no photocopies or grade reports (Transcript instructions).

How to apply

Through your OHID account and the Board's licensure pages, which list license types, exams and background checks (Educator licensure).

A closed list of evaluators

Ohio does not accept "any NACES member". It names 16 services and says it "will only accept credential evaluations" from them (Approved international credential evaluation services). The addresses it lists are for mail only; each service gives its own instructions for dropping off documents.

The translation rule therefore depends on the service you pick.

WES does not translate, wants an exact word-for-word translation by a professional translator and takes uploads in your WES account (WES); ECE accepts any complete word-for-word translation (ECE).

Josef Silny and Associates, also on the list, takes outside translations made in the US only from ATA-certified translators.

Translate every page the evaluator will read, including the transcript pages with hours and grades, since the analysis is course by course; we keep grades and hours exactly as recorded.

Licensure now sits with the State Board

Ohio educator licenses are issued by the State Board of Education, and the old licensure pages of the Department of Education and Workforce now lead to the Board's site (Educator licensure).

The Board's resources page links to the approved evaluator list for applicants who studied outside the US (Educator licensure: information and resources).

Check there, not on older guides, which may list a different set of agencies.

Need a certified translation for Ohio State Board of Education?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University diplomas and degree certificates
  • Transcripts and mark sheets for every degree
  • Teacher preparation program records
  • Teaching certificate or license from the other country

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to Ohio State Board of Education

  • The translation goes to the evaluation service with your documents, under that service's instructions (WES, for example, takes uploads in your WES account) (WES: translation requirements).

  • The course-by-course analysis then goes to the Board with your licensure application; US transcripts are uploaded to your OHID account or sent by the college to educator.licensure@sboe.ohio.gov (Transcript instructions).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.

For Ohio that means we translate your credentials for the evaluation service; the course-by-course analysis, the licensure exams and the license decision are outside what we do.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
