How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners publishes no translation rule of its own: graduates of medical schools outside the US must hold ECFMG certification, sent directly by ECFMG at licensure, and core credentials can arrive through FCVS.
ECFMG accepts word-for-word translations by professional translation services such as eVerbary, but not your own. We translate your records; ECFMG certification, USMLE transcripts and the FCVS packet come from their issuers.
New Jersey BME at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
New Jersey requires the ECFMG certificate from applicants who graduated from medical school outside the US (Board FAQ), and ECFMG accepts a word-for-word translation by a professional translation service (ECFMG translation rules). Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about New Jersey BME

USMLE transcript too
The ECFMG certificate shows only Steps 1 and 2.
New Jersey BME requirements in detail
Translation
No translation rule on the Board's FAQ or forms (FAQ, applications).
Evaluation
ECFMG certification is required of graduates of schools outside the US; at licensure it must come as an original certification directly from ECFMG (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
Who may translate (ECFMG)
A government official, a medical school official or a professional translation service; not the applicant (ECFMG: English translations).
FCVS
New Jersey accepts core credentials (identity, education, training, exam history, ECFMG certificate) through an FCVS packet, plus Board-specific forms (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
Training
Graduates after July 1, 2003 need two years of accredited training and a contract for a third; international graduates from 1985 to 2003 need three years (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
Exams
A USMLE transcript showing all three steps, since the ECFMG certificate covers only Steps 1 and 2 (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
Fees
$325 application fee; at licensure a $225 endorsement fee plus $290 per year of registration (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
ECFMG carries the translations
New Jersey reads your foreign education through ECFMG and, if you use it, FCVS (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
Documents in another language are translated for ECFMG, which wants an official English translation, word for word, from the original or a photocopy, by a professional translation service or an official, with a certification statement and the translator's signature (ECFMG: English translations). A certified translation from us is made to that standard.
Residents applying for a training permit may send a copy of their ECFMG certificate; the full license application needs the original certification sent by ECFMG (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
Where New Jersey's pages differ
The Board's FAQ, last modified in April 2023, still says physicians request an application packet by phone and that online filing is coming (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
Check the current method with the Board before you send anything; the forms it still uses, such as the Medical Education Verification form, are on its applications page.

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to New Jersey BME
Translations for ECFMG are uploaded with the original-language documents through ECFMG's online services (ECFMG: English translations); ECFMG then sends its certification directly to the Board (Board of Medical Examiners FAQ).
Board-specific forms, such as employer and malpractice verifications, go to the Board as its applications page describes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.
For New Jersey that means we translate your records; we do not request ECFMG certification, build an FCVS packet or send verifications for your school or employers.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
