How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The Montana Board of Medical Examiners states that all documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations, and does not say who must make them.
Montana BME accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Montana also wants every credential sent from the primary source or through FCVS, never by the applicant, so the translation has to reach the Board with the school's verification or by arrangement with Board staff; we translate, we cannot send documents for your school.
Montana BME at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
The physician checklist says all documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations, without naming who must translate (physician checklist), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about Montana BME
Certified translations
Required for every document not in English.
Source only
Credentials come from the school, ECFMG or FCVS, not from you.
English ability
The Board must find you can communicate in English.
Montana BME requirements in detail
Translation
All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
Who may translate
Not stated by the Board (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist). ECFMG, which Montana requires of foreign graduates, accepts a professional translation service and bars self-translation (ECFMG: English translations).
Original or copy
Required documents may not be submitted by the applicant; they must come directly from the primary source, or through FCVS (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
Foreign graduates
Also supply the Certification of Medical Education, postgraduate training verification and the ECFMG certificate (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist). Montana defines a foreign medical graduate by the World Health Directory of Medical Schools (Board rules).
Evaluation
No credential evaluation; ECFMG certification and exam verifications, which can be part of an FCVS profile (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
English
Applicants must be able to communicate in English, as determined by the Board (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
How to apply
Online at ebiz.mt.gov/POL (recommended) or on paper; $375 application fee (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
Certified translations, but nothing from you
Montana's checklist carries two rules side by side.
Every document not in English must be accompanied by certified translations, and none of the required documents may be submitted directly by the applicant: verifications come from the medical school, training programs, exam bodies, ECFMG or FCVS (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
The school completes the bottom of the Certificate of Medical Education and returns it to the Board itself.
The checklist does not explain how a translation you order reaches the Board alongside a school-sent form.
Ask Board staff (406-444-6880, dlibsdhelp@mt.gov, listed on the checklist) whether they take the translation from you or want your school to enclose it with its verification, and ask before you order, so the translation covers exactly the pages the school will send.
FCVS and ECFMG carry most of the file
The Board accepts FCVS profiles and the FSMB Uniform Application, and both medical school verification and ECFMG can be part of FCVS (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
Foreign diplomas and transcripts are then translated for ECFMG, which wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translation service, signed, on letterhead, with a certification statement (ECFMG: English translations). An eVerbary certified translation is made to that standard.
Need a certified translation for Montana BME?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Medical school diploma
- Medical school transcript, if your school sends one with its certification
- Foreign medical license and good-standing letters
- Postgraduate training certificates issued abroad
- Marriage certificate or court order for a name change
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to Montana BME
Montana wants credentials from the primary source or FCVS, not from the applicant (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist). Confirm with Board staff whether the translation should come with your school's verification or separately, then follow that route.
Apply online at ebiz.mt.gov/POL; the Board's website has the application and forms.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.
For Montana that means we translate your documents; we cannot send them on behalf of your medical school, and we do not order FCVS or ECFMG verifications.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Montana require certified translations for physician applications?
Yes. All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
Who can translate my documents for the Montana Board?
The Board does not say who. A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets the requirement; ECFMG does not accept translations made by applicants (ECFMG: English translations).
Can I mail my diploma and translation to the Board myself?
The checklist says required documents may not be submitted directly by the applicant (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist). Ask Board staff how they want a translation delivered.
Is FCVS required in Montana?
No, but it is accepted, and it can carry medical school verification and ECFMG (Physician licensing requirements and application checklist).
