How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

The Kansas State Board of Nursing publishes no translation rule of its own: nurses educated outside the US must have their transcripts and nursing license evaluated by TruMerit (CGFNS) or International Education Evaluations (IEE), with the report sent directly to KSBN.

IEE accepts translations from certified translators, though not from the applicant or a notary, so a certified translation from eVerbary works there.

TruMerit translates nursing transcripts only through the school or itself, and we do not provide the evaluation.

KSBN at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

KSBN approves two credentialing agencies, TruMerit/CGFNS and International Education Evaluators (IEE) (KSBN instructions), and IEE accepts translations from certified translators, refusing only those by the client, a notary public or an uncertified translator (IEE FAQ), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Worth knowing about KSBN

TOEFL, IELTS or OET, each section scored.

KSBN requirements in detail

Translation

No board rule of its own; KSBN's instructions send foreign-educated applicants to an approved credentialing agency, which handles documents in other languages (Special instructions for nurses educated outside the United States, rev. 2026-02).

Who may translate

Depends on the agency: IEE accepts certified translators and refuses translations by the client, a notary public or an uncertified translator (IEE: FAQ); TruMerit wants nursing transcripts translated by the school or by TruMerit (TruMerit: CES Professional Report).

Evaluation

Education transcripts and nursing license evaluated by an approved agency, as a Credentials Evaluation Professional Report sent directly to KSBN; approved agencies are TruMerit/CGFNS International and International Education Evaluators (Special instructions for nurses educated outside the United States, rev. 2026-02).

Rule

K.A.R. 60-3-106: credentials go to CGFNS or another credentialing agency approved by the board (Special instructions for nurses educated outside the United States, rev. 2026-02).

English test

If your first language or your nursing education was not English: TOEFL (reading 19, writing 20, speaking 20, listening 20), IELTS (6.5, 5.5, 6.5, 6.5) or OET (C+, B speaking), sent by the test body with code 9149; results from applicants are not accepted (Special instructions for nurses educated outside the United States, rev. 2026-02).

NCLEX

Required for all applicants; those who passed it in another state use the endorsement application (Special instructions for nurses educated outside the United States, rev. 2026-02).

TruMerit or IEE: what changes for the translation

KSBN's instructions, revised February 2026, list two approved agencies (Special instructions for nurses educated outside the United States, rev. 2026-02).

With TruMerit, nursing transcripts must be translated by the school that issued them, or by TruMerit for an additional fee (TruMerit), so an outside translation of nursing records is not used.

With IEE, a translation from a certified translator is accepted; IEE refuses translations made by the client, a notary public or an uncertified translator, and generally accepts translations from a university or the embassy in your home country (IEE).

IEE offers a Kansas Nursing Licensure Report for RNs and LPNs with a five-day turnaround through its custom Kansas application (IEE Kansas); the five days run once IEE has your documents, translation included.

Pitfalls in the Kansas process

KSBN wants the report itself sent directly by the agency, and English test results sent by the test body using code 9149; results you send yourself are not accepted (Special instructions for nurses educated outside the United States, rev. 2026-02).

Each section of the English test has its own minimum, so an overall score is not enough.

KSBN calls the second agency "International Education Evaluators" and links to myiee.org; the agency's own name is International Education Evaluations. The phone number and link match (Special instructions for nurses educated outside the United States, rev. 2026-02, IEE Kansas).

Need a certified translation for KSBN?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Nursing school transcripts and mark sheets, for the agency
  • Nursing diploma or degree certificate
  • Nursing license or registration from the country of education
  • Secondary school diploma, if the agency asks for it

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to KSBN

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.

For Kansas that means we translate the records the agency needs; the Credentials Evaluation Professional Report comes from TruMerit or IEE, ordered by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
