How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The Hawaii Medical Board asks that the evidence of your MD degree, if it is in a foreign language, come with an accurate translation from the medical school or another organization that provides translating services, and it does not accept translations by the applicant.
The Hawaii Medical Board accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Foreign graduates qualify through one of three pathways that rely on ECFMG, whose certificate we do not arrange.
Hawaii Medical Board at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
The Board's application asks for an accurate translation "from the medical school or other organization that provides translating services" (application instructions), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Hawaii Medical Board requirements in detail
Translation
Required when the evidence of your MD degree is in a foreign language: an accurate translation attached to it (Requirements and application: physician license by non-endorsement, 2026).
Who may translate
The medical school or another organization that provides translating services; translations may not be provided by the applicant (Requirements and application: physician license by non-endorsement, 2026).
The endorsement form says the same (Requirements and application: physician license by endorsement, 2026).
What to translate
A copy of your MD diploma, your medical school transcripts or a letter from the dean giving your graduation date (Requirements and application: physician license by non-endorsement, 2026).
Original or copy
The form asks you to attach a copy of the diploma, transcript or dean's letter, with the translation attached to it (Requirements and application: physician license by non-endorsement, 2026).
ECFMG
Foreign graduates qualify through one of three pathways, built on the ECFMG certificate or its qualifying examination (the first also accepts a Fifth Pathway or MCCEE) (MD FAQ).
How to submit
By mail to the Hawaii Medical Board, DCCA PVL Licensing Branch, P.O. Box 3469, Honolulu, HI 96801, or delivered to 335 Merchant Street, Room 301 (Requirements and application: physician license by non-endorsement, 2026).
A translation service, and never you
Hawaii's rule sits in the "Evidence of MD degree" instructions of both physician applications: you attach a copy of your diploma, transcripts or a dean's letter, and if those documents are in a foreign language, an accurate translation must be attached from the medical school or another organization that provides translating services (non-endorsement form, endorsement form).
The same paragraph closes with a flat bar: translations may not be provided by the applicant.
The form does not ask for notarization or for a translator with a particular credential. What it checks is that the document gives your graduation date, so the translation must carry the date, the degree title and the school name exactly as printed.
Three pathways for foreign graduates
The Board's FAQ lists three routes for graduates of foreign medical schools: two years of residency accredited by ACGME, RCPSC or CFPC with a national licensing exam and an ECFMG certificate, Fifth Pathway or MCCEE; a second route built on two years of postgraduate training; and a third built on three years of training or experience in a hospital approved by the AMA's Council on Medical Education, with the ECFMG qualifying examination (MD physician FAQs, 2026).
ECFMG keeps its own translation rule for documents uploaded to it: word for word, by a professional translation service or an official, never by the applicant (ECFMG translation requirements). A certified translation from us fits both ECFMG and the Board.
Where the Hawaii Medical Board's pages differ
The 2026 non-endorsement application describes the second pathway with an ECFMG certificate and two years of postgraduate training (Requirements and application: physician license by non-endorsement, 2026), while the 2026 MD FAQ describes it as passing the ECFMG qualifying examination before 1984 (MD physician FAQs, 2026).
That is a question about eligibility, not translation; confirm with the Board which pathway applies to you.

Submitting the translation to Hawaii Medical Board
Attach the translation to the copy of your diploma, transcript or dean's letter in the application packet, and mail it to P.O. Box 3469, Honolulu, HI 96801, or deliver it to 335 Merchant Street, Room 301 (Requirements and application: physician license by non-endorsement, 2026).
Current forms are on the Board's applications page (Hawaii Medical Board application forms).
Documents uploaded to ECFMG go to ECFMG under its own instructions, with the original-language document.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.
For Hawaii that means we translate your diploma, transcripts and letters; we do not arrange your ECFMG certificate, residency verification or Federation report.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
