Old and new rent law
Syria has two rental regimes. Tenancies under the old rent law, frozen at rents set decades ago and effectively permanent and inheritable, still exist in large numbers; tenancies under the 2006 law are ordinary contracts.
A Syrian lease showing an absurdly low rent is an old-law tenancy rather than an error. We name the regime, because the tenant's position is entirely different under each.
Destroyed property, and Law 10
Conflict destroyed a very large part of the housing stock and displaced millions, and reconstruction legislation including Law 10 of 2018 created redevelopment zones with claim procedures and short windows.
So a Syrian property file may contain claim documents, ownership proofs and administrative decisions rather than a simple lease. We name each instrument and translate it as what it is.
Registration, and the documents that survive
Leases and property rights were registered with the land registry, and records have been destroyed, damaged or reconstructed. Duplicates and court-issued substitutes are common and lawful.

Rent is in Syrian pounds, which have depreciated enormously since 2011, so a figure from an older contract is not comparable to a current one. We reproduce the currency and the date and do not convert.
