The state certificate, and why it exists
Poland issues a państwowy certyfikat znajomości języka polskiego jako obcego — a state certificate of Polish as a foreign language — at CEFR levels, examined by authorised institutions under a state commission.
It is the only certificate that satisfies the language requirement for Polish citizenship, which requires B1, and that is why most of these certificates exist. A course certificate from a language school does not substitute.
Adult and child versions
The examination is offered in an adult version and a version for children and adolescents, with different level ranges, and the certificate states which. A children's certificate at a given level is not interchangeable with the adult one for all purposes.

Sectional minimums, and the pass
Passing requires a minimum in each part — listening, grammar, reading, writing and speaking — as well as an overall threshold, so a strong candidate can fail on one component.
The certificate shows the level passed; the accompanying results show the components. Where the profile matters, send both.
Karta Polaka, which is assessed differently
The Karta Polaka — the Pole's Card — requires basic knowledge of Polish assessed at an interview by a consul rather than by certificate, and the resulting document is an identity-style card rather than a language certificate.

Does a language school certificate work for citizenship?
No. Only the state certificate at B1 satisfies the requirement.
Is the children's certificate the same?
It is a separate version with its own level range, and not interchangeable for all purposes. We name the version.
Can I fail with a good overall score?
Yes. Each component has a minimum as well as the overall threshold.
Is the Karta Polaka a language certificate?
