Seven indigenous peoples, and the comarcas
Panama recognises seven indigenous peoples with languages including Ngäbere, Buglere, Guna, Emberá, Wounaan and Naso, several with self-governing comarcas and bilingual intercultural education.
A certificate in one of those attests a language rather than a dialect, and teacher certification in the bilingual system carries a language attestation. We name the language and the issuing institution.
No national Spanish examination
Panama does not operate a national Spanish proficiency examination. Spanish for foreign learners is certified by university language centres and by DELE and SIELE at centres in the country.
A US reader looking for a Panamanian Spanish certificate will find a university course credential or an international examination. We name the issuer.
English, and the canal economy
Panama's banking, shipping and canal sectors run substantially in English, and English proficiency certification recognised by the education ministry appears in Panamanian professional files.
We name the certificate and the recognition where the document states it.
The cédula, and the Canal Zone
Certificates identify the candidate by cédula with its province prefix, and PE, E and N mark birth abroad to Panamanian parents, foreigners and naturalised citizens.
People educated in the former Canal Zone before 1979 may hold US-format school records in English. We name the issuing authority for each. See our Spanish page.
Ordering, and what the certification covers
Upload the document, choose certified translation at $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, and it comes back typically within 24 hours as a PDF formatted to mirror the original, with a signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead. Marginal annotations are translated in place, in the margin, and every seal, stamp and registry endorsement is translated with the text. See how we translate and certified versus standard.
