The court-appointed expert, and the 2017 codes
Nepal recodified its civil and criminal procedure in 2017, and expert opinion is obtained by the court from a qualified person or institution, with the parties able to propose and object.
Documents from before and after the recodification cite different rules, and an older citation is not defective. We reproduce the code and section as cited.
The postmortem, and the government doctor
Forensic examination in Nepal is conducted principally by government hospital doctors and the forensic medicine departments of teaching hospitals, and the postmortem report is the routine instrument in death cases.
A report may be written by a general practitioner where no forensic specialist was available, and we name the author and their qualification as printed rather than implying a specialism.

Nepali court documents are dated in Bikram Sambat, roughly 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar, with months of varying length converted against a table.
The case number carries a year in that calendar. A reader who does not convert reads every date and reference as half a century out.
Devanagari, and the citizenship number
Reports are in Nepali written in Devanagari, which romanises inconsistently, so a name may appear several ways. We follow the passport where one exists.
Parties are identified by citizenship certificate number and district of issue rather than a national identity number. See our Nepali page.
