TOPIK I and TOPIK II are different tests
The Test of Proficiency in Korean comes in two versions. TOPIK I awards levels 1 or 2; TOPIK II awards levels 3 to 6, with 6 the highest. Which test was taken caps the level that could be awarded.
So a level 2 from TOPIK I is the top of that test rather than a weak result on the full one, and a reader who does not see which version was sat cannot interpret the level. We name the version.
The level is derived from a total score
TOPIK does not award a level per skill. A total score across sections determines the level against published cut-offs, so a candidate strong in reading and weak in writing receives a single number.
The score report shows the sections and the certificate shows the level. Where a reader needs the profile rather than the headline, send both and we translate both.
KIIP, which is not TOPIK
Korea's Korea Immigration and Integration Program issues its own completion certificates and level assessments used for visa and residency points, and they are frequently mistaken for TOPIK results.
They measure a different thing through a different programme. We name the issuing body and the programme rather than translating everything as a proficiency certificate.
Validity, and what universities require
TOPIK results are treated as valid for two years from the announcement date, and Korean universities commonly require level 3 or 4 for Korean-taught admission and level 4 for graduation in some programmes.
