Matrimonio concordatario, and multilingual extracts
A church wedding in Italy can carry civil effect through the matrimonio concordatario, in which the religious marriage is transcribed into the civil register. What you then hold may be a parish document, a civil transcription, or both — and they are not the same thing. The civil record is what a foreign office will want.
Italy can also issue a multilingual extract under a 1976 convention. It serves the countries that signed it, and the United States did not, so it does not replace a certified English translation for USCIS. See our Italian page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
