The eleven-digit personal number
Every Georgian carries an eleven-digit personal number that does not change with a name and appears on the passport and the identity card. It is the reliable identifier across a Georgian file.
Georgia's identity card is a travel document for the Schengen area, so a Georgian client may present a card rather than a passport for European travel. They are different documents and we name which.
Mkhedruli has no capital letters
Georgian is written in Mkhedruli, an alphabet unrelated to Latin or Cyrillic and with no upper and lower case at all. A name that looks uncapitalised in the original is not informal.
We do not invent capitalisation to make a Georgian name resemble a US record. The passport prints a Latin transliteration alongside, and romanisation is not standardised in practice.
Surname endings carry region
Georgian surnames end in -dze, -shvili, -iani, -ava, -ua and others, each associated with a region. They are part of the surname and not detachable suffixes.
Soviet-era documents may render a Georgian surname through Russian, adding or dropping letters, so one person appears with different final vowels across documents. We reproduce each and note the relationship.

Births before 1991 were registered under Soviet administration and a modern Georgian certificate restates that entry, naming the original registering authority.
