No legal separation, and mandatory mediation
Croatian law provides no legal separation. Divorce is by court, and where the spouses have a minor child the proceedings must be preceded by obligatory counselling at the social welfare service and, in defined cases, by family mediation.
So a Croatian file contains a counselling report before the petition, and it is a procedural precondition rather than evidence about the relationship.
The joint parenting plan
Croatian law encourages a joint parenting plan agreed by the spouses and approved by the court, which if accepted allows a simplified divorce.
So a Croatian divorce file may contain a detailed parenting document alongside a short dissolution. We translate both and name each.
The matica vjenčanih
The divorce is recorded in the matica vjenčanih, the register of marriages, and an izvadak issued afterwards shows the current status.
