No legal separation, and a reconciliation attempt
Albanian law provides no legal separation. Divorce is by court, by mutual consent with an agreement or by petition, and the court must attempt reconciliation before proceeding.

The de facto separation as a ground
Living apart for a defined period is a ground for divorce under the Albanian Family Code, so the date separation began is consequential and is stated in the petition and the judgment.

The divorce is recorded against the civil status record and a certificate issued afterwards shows the current status. Albania holds civil status data in a national electronic register, and modern certificates are printed from it with verification data.
