COMPIN assesses, SENADIS registers
Two bodies are involved and they do different things. COMPIN — the regional medical commission — carries out the assessment and issues the determination; SENADIS maintains the Registro Nacional de la Discapacidad and the resulting credencial de discapacidad is issued through the Civil Registry.
So a Chilean file may contain a COMPIN resolution, a registry entry and a credential, and they are three documents. We name each and its issuer.
Ley 20.422, and the percentage
Ley 20.422 frames disability in terms of participation and barriers, and the assessment produces a percentage of disability using an instrument that weights functional limitation and contextual factors.
The percentage governs entitlements — the Chilean quota law requires employers above a threshold to employ people with disability or meet an alternative obligation, and the credential is what evidences eligibility. We reproduce the figure with its scale.
The credencial, and the RUN
The credential is issued through the Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación and carries the holder's RUN, the national identity number, which does not change and is the cross-check against the rest of the packet.
The RUN is written with a check digit after a hyphen, which may be the letter K, and we reproduce it exactly including that character.
Pensión de invalidez, which is separate
The pensión de invalidez under the pension system is assessed by a different body — the medical commissions of the pensions regulator — against a different standard, and a person may have one and not the other.
A pension determination translated as a disability certificate misstates what was decided and by whom. We name the instrument. See our Spanish page.
