Personal law by religion, and Buddhist customary divorce
Myanmar applies personal law by religion. For Buddhists, Myanmar customary law governs, and it permits divorce by mutual consent without any court involvement at all — an agreement between the parties, sometimes witnessed by elders.
So a Burmese Buddhist divorce may be evidenced by a private agreement rather than a decree. That is the law rather than an informality, and we translate the agreement as the instrument it is.
Muslim, Hindu and Christian marriages
Muslim marriages in Myanmar are governed by Islamic personal law, Hindu marriages by Hindu law and Christian ones by the applicable statute, each with its own routes and its own documents.

Marriage registration in Myanmar has been partial, and many marriages are evidenced by custom, by a declaration, or by a township record rather than by a national certificate.

Burmese names are not divided into given and family names, and U, Daw, Ko, Ma and Maung are titles rather than name components. A US form demanding a surname splits a single name arbitrarily.
