A certificate from the internal affairs bodies
Belarusian criminal record certificates are issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs through its information units. The document is a certificate of having or not having a criminal record (spravka o nalichii ili otsutstvii sudimosti), usually in Russian, with a stamp and a signature.
Someone in Belarus can request it on your behalf with a notarised power of attorney. Since September 2023 consulates no longer affix apostilles; if the receiving office wants one, it is done in Belarus. USCIS and the NVC do not require it. See our Belarusian page.
How recent it must be, and recorded entries
The certificate states its date of issue, and US offices set their own limit on how old it can be — the NVC and consulates follow the State Department's country instructions. Get it close to when you will file. See our NVC page.
Where the certificate lists a conviction, we translate the offence as named in Belarusian criminal law, with the article number, and do not assert a US equivalent. See our Russian page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get it from abroad?
Through a representative in Belarus with a notarised power of attorney. Note that consulates stopped notarising powers of attorney for citizens in 2023, according to law-firm summaries; ask a lawyer how to give one.
Does it need an apostille for USCIS?
No. Some other offices want one, and it can only be affixed in Belarus.
Do you convert the offence into a US crime?
No. We translate it as classified in Belarusian law and cite the article.
